Thank you, this was helpful! I used IEW for an older child, who hated writing and grammar-academically. She LOVED it, so this just helped confirm that I should start my littler one one on IEW!

Excellent content!! I have been looking at this program but not really sure what it was like. This helped so much. I have six children learning to read. Only one is reading Sonlight level 2/3. This program looks like a perfect solution for me to teach them all mostly together with just a bit of one on one time. They can play the games together. We just started all about reading level 1 with four of them but I have to do everyone’s lesson separately. This program whole program including writing is roughly the same cost as just one level of all About Reading.

I went ahead and purchased both the reading and writing programs. I already have all about spelling. I spent less than I would have on the next level of all about reading and I like this layout better. It includes all LA components needed for early elementary instead of just reading. 😀

@@peachy_reina We completed only a portion. We will pull out a game from time to time but we needed a more efficient program that didn’t take so long to complete daily. It is a great program but I wasn’t able to implement long term with my family. I have found this to be the case with all the IEW products we’ve tried. Maybe it just doesn’t fit my teaching style.

So glad I came across this!! Very informative and helpful video, thank you! I love IEW so so much but have never used PAL. The only thing I struggle with is I don't own a DVD player (nor do I know someone who owns one) so I would need to go buy one just to listen to the DVD they provide. However, it looks like a very comprehensive curriculum and, that aside, I can't wait to buy it!

We have been using this program this year. The writing and the reading kind of flow together. I found it best to do a writing lesson then a reading lesson. We ended up doing 2 lessons of each a week. It spirals a bit, so my daughter was never behind, she is in TK.

How is this going for you now? This video was very helpful. My son is doing AAR 2 but I feel it’s going slow because he started to really understand the way phonics works. Lots of these lessons feel like a waste of time. Do you think switching to PAL would be a good fit? He’s 5 but he’s a very eager learner. He loves the games in AAR but again it doesn’t feel like it’s anything new if that makes sense.

I am not sure PAL would be a good fit. While he could work through it at his pace, it is game heavy, so he might feel the same way.

I’m a Memoria Press user. I have a kindergartener that is starting 1st grade curriculum in May (year round schoolers with an odd schedule). He is an emerging reader using the FSR program book D. IEW has always looked like an intriguing curriculum. Do you think it’s stronger than MP in some respects? Or is it something you can use alongside MP?
@EducationalRoots
3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I like how cohesive IEW is and I’m really excited how this sets the stage fro their regular programs. MP uses some IEW actually. Do you plan on doing Latin? If so, then MP LA is enough, but if you don’t plan on it then I would do IEW. I’m talking long term. But just for the K-2 stage I actually got MP phonics at the thrift store but decided against it. However, I do love MP and think you can easily use MP for everything else and sub out LA. So it’s really a preference type thing.

Educational Roots thank you so much for your thoughts and review of IEW. I have yet to see one as thorough as yours which I really love when trying to decide anything. I was intending to put all four of my boys through MP long term and do Latin as long as it works for each of them. I have a 4 year old that is eager to read but I’m concerned FSR is too fast for him and he’s a not too interested in writing yet. So many choices and decisions and I want to try everything 😅🤦🏻♀️

@@megangoodall545 I feel you! I love to do all the things too! I was really drawn to IEW because it’s game based. My daughter has suspected ADHD (she was too young to diagnose at the time) and really loves games. Plus I love how it’s K-2 and how it leads right in to their other programs. But I love MP’s stuff too! Both are great companies with great products.

My daughter will be in second grade in the fall. We’ve done TGTB since the kindergarten primer. She’s a pretty good reader, however I do think she could use a better understanding of why/how things work with phonics and spelling rules. I was thinking I would get her AAR 2 and the IEW PALS writing/spelling. Do you think that would be a good fit or should I just do the IEW reading? I was under the impression that they didn’t recommend the reading portion if the child already knows how to read.
