I know I'm a year behind everybody else here, but if you are still reading comments, thanks very much. I greatly appreciated the teaching style. Information and explanations were clear but not tedious. I could stop the video and practice the different pieces of it and then go on. I'll check out your other teaching videos as well.

David, thank you so much!!!! Lyle has been my boy for decades, I absolutely love his stuff but I've never attempted his music. This vid is so straight forward, all it takes is a little bit of courage, confidence and a WTF attitude and following your instructions are so simple. Thank you.

Great, just saved me a lot of time working out this guitar part. Not always playing the top string is a subtlety i would probably have missed, thank you.

This is so well thought out and presented. Thank you. I heard Lyle play this song live this past Monday and it reminded me that I'd still like to have it in my repertoire.

Great lesson. Fun song. I believe Lyle wrote that song when he was a teenager. May have been the first song he wrote. As far as another one of his songs I would like to have a tutorial on, that would be “Don’t Touch My Hat”. Thanks!!

Great lesson - thank you! I recently subscribed to your channel - your teaching style is clear and approachable. One question... Instead of using just the index finger to play the melody notes, what about assigning the G B and high E string to fingers 1, 2 and 3 so that the middle finger is playing the B and the ring finger is playing the high E?

Overall an excellent lesson. But, there's no need to plant your pinky on the b string. Lyle doesn't. He uses the third finger and that works better for me. Also, take a look at the video for the song. At 2:08 you can see that Lyle plays a full D/F# chord with the F# bass and the F# on top. So you're very close, but I find that watching the original artist play can help get it just right.

It's a really nice lesson but I would recommend anyone wanting to get more into fingerstyle guitar to not get into the habit of using just the index finger for the top strings. Also, this is missing the forward roll in the intro which is really key to the sound of the song. This is kind of related to the first point since you can't do the roll with just your index finger...

Close, kinda, but not really it. You're missing all the great nuances that set this piece apart. Lyle always plays this with a thumb pick. You're missing the pattern with the Travis picking. There's a triplet in the pattern that is quite tricky to play. If you listen to Lyle play it versus what you're teaching, you'll notice a substantial difference. Check out Jerry's Guitar Bar for a proper lesson on how to play this song.
