Rin is fully Japanese but she was raised by a hard core hip hop head, there are videos of her dancing with her mom (and sister I believe) out there. She has also said in interviews that she has been listening to hip hop since she was in her mama’s belly.

Makes sense. Ever since I discovered them, her dancing skills stood out to me. She's insanely talented. Her popping technique is chef's kiss.

Rin is Japanese, she curls her hair and right now has shaved the sides. Her dance background is street styles, popping etc. and she will often do the rap bits of AG songs, she also DJs. AG are all very talented dancers and have been in various stage and modeling schools since they were kids. They are influenced by 80's Japanese pop, jazz and US bands like the Beastie Boys, they have produced some songs with Money Mark. Atarashii Gakko No Leaders (New School Leaders) was formed in 2015 by Asobisystem. Mizyu (the one with two ponytails) had already worked at Asobisystem as she was a back up dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Rin, Kanon and Suzuka joined her. I think of them as an almost anti-idol group as they emphasize individuality and their agency seem to give them a lot of artistic freedom. They are a double threat as they are all very good dancers and can all sing too. They do all their own choreography and also create dances; here they actually cut out some of the more explicit "phallic" bits of the dance and introduced a mime of a flower opening with a surprised look. Otona Blue (Adult Blues, blue is also associated with youth and immaturity in Japan and otonaburu means "acting like an adult") is about "teenage awakening" ie the awareness of desire in others and their own desire to grow up and experience adult emotions. AG wrote the lyrics themselves when they were younger and I think it's an honest expression of their feelings as they approached adulthood, which can make people uncomfortable. But AG never shy away from difficult subjects. Suzuka has the strongest voice and biggest personality and she's the natural lead in concert situations, but in smaller and quieter performances all the members can shine as each one has a good voice. Suzuka and Mizyu tend to take the lead in interviews...Mizyu is the oldest and worked with KPP so I think she has some seniority. They've been a very niche band in Japan and in 2020 hooked up with 88rising to break into the US. They've had some success with than and have played at some festivals and small venues in California. They recently went viral in Japan on TikTok with Otona Blue, which is a couple of years old and capitalized on that with this First Take performance. I October they are scheduled to play their first Arena, ie very large concert, in Octover. Next check out some of their other songs like "Nai Nai Nai" and "Suki Lie".

Nah, you're absolutely right. They are over the top, that's their thing. They're kinda like an "anti-idol" group, because they exaggerate everything so much that it gives them this aura of irony and self awareness.

Normally Japanese people don’t talk like this, they are exaggerating a lot which is why it reminds you of anime. Their performance group is very high energy and comedic.

Hello~ Their official name is "Atarashii Gakko No Leaders." in Japanese. it's a little bit long for international fans. So they use just "Atarashii Gakko." But they use the official name and introduce themselves in this video.

They pronounced it as "otonabuRU" instead of "otonabulu" because japanese language has no "L" in their alphabet/script. They only have "ra, ri, ru, re, ro" and no single "L" sound or "la, li, lu, le, lo". It's not about exaggeration.

It's these differences you speak of that are the reason I have become so immersed in the Japanese music scene. Regardless of whether or not a band would go on a playlist of mine, it's just so refreshing to see bands doing different things and not really worrying about what pigeonhole they have to fit into, also the talent levels are amazing and the majority seem to be having such a blast.

That segment where you were begging people to subscribe just felt aweful, I'm actually traumatized by the expression of your face. I understand you need to promote your channel, but overdoing it just makes it repulsive. I used to be subscribed here, but I've had enough of being badgered for subs, I'm unsubscribing.
