Again, this video isn't the same as dom2k made for the 2011 mvp argument. His points are based on ACTUAL MVP selection criteria, while jonny's vid, is focused on how the MVP each year will be IF it's based on production (stats) and impact on both ends of the floor (defensively and offensively). Lebron had better overall stats and individual impact, while rose had the 'against all odds' narrative edge plus the best team record in the NBA while being the team's best player.

James Harden honestly could’ve won MVP 3 years straight. 29/8/11 in 2016/17, only reason he didn’t get it is because Russ had the triple double season. 30/5/8 when he did win in 2017/18, which was probably his WORST season from 2016-19. Lastly, he had 36/7/6 when he was ROBBED FUCKING BLIND in 2018/19. 27/12/6 is definitely MVP worthy from Giannis, but 36 ppg is something only MJ and Wilt have ever touched. Disgraceful he didn’t win at least 2 MVPs in that stretch.

look we all know Defense is often overlooked when talking about players' impact, but I think there's a bit too much emphasis on it this video. You can literally make the reverse argument for the mpg. Harden had to play more minutes, so he could help his team win(which they needed because a few key players on their roster were injured for a big part of the season), ergo he is more valuable than giannis in that perspective, plus imagine playing every single game accumulating those amounts of fatigue and still averaging an otherworldly 36 ppg. For me it isn't a questing Harden deserved the mvp that year

The amount of durability and stamina it requires to play that many minutes consistently doesn't show up in the box score, so it's easy for a lot of people to underrate. It's the same way people like to criticize Wilt for "needing" 48 minutes a game to average 50 points at 130 possession average. You show me another player in history you could maintain that pace and those minutes for an entire season, in chuck taylors, then we can talk about how easy it is to put up those numbers

MVPs should be given to the best player, 100%. It’s interesting how being on a top 1 to 2 seed makes you an MVP, which doesn’t really make sense to me. I feel like that if your an incredible player on a at least playoff team, then I think that they are the best player if they really are like Jonny talked about. A lot of times though, they give the MVP to the player who has “The best story” or “the most inspiring story”, and this should not be the case. The award should be given to the player who is the most talented and has the best stats. But in todays league you also need to be a flashy player as well. That’s how Giannis and Jokic repeated as MVP in back to back years. I feel like the 2022 MVP should have been Embiid because he had the best stats in the NBA, and it’s a regular season award so it shouldn’t matter that his team lost in the second round, which is a thing I think a lot of people forget. It’s a regular season award! But even if it was a regular season, and playoff award, it still wouldn’t matter in my opinion if your teams wins a ring, because it should be the player who has the best stats. Consider this: let’s say next year in the playoffs, Ja averages 30 PPG in the regular season and then comes the playoffs. His team is the 2 seed and he averages 35 PPG but his team loses in the second round. He should still win MVP, even though his team lost early in the playoffs. And it should be that way because of his stellar stats.
@illestvillainalive
2 жыл бұрын
its diff bc its called the most valuable player, which means even if a player has a good stat line if their team does good without them (ja) or if they are injured a lot (embiid) it heavily impacts their case for being the most valuable player, that being said i feel there should be an opoy (offensive player of the year) alongside mvp and dpoy that way players with stellar offense can still get an award if they don’t have a stacked stat sheet, all goes down to opinion on your first statement tho :)

It wasn’t underrated when everyone still over-glorifies it all the time. Yes, individually for LBJ it was very impressive but when considering he went against a bunch of developing kids on weak teams att with virtually 0 AllStars (Bos ECF, the only Superstar in Kyrie injured ffs), Notorious DeplayoffChoker (2nd round), and a bunch of nobodies with one mid caliber AS in Oladipo. Plus adding to that meh run he got swept again in the Finals after only one great individual performance. When you add all of that then the totality of the run isn’t that impressive. I’d take any of Hakeem’s playoffs runs when he was a massive underdog and you know, actually won a championship against way tougher comp all around. Or Kawhi’s actually Legendary 2019 performance against actual comp and superstars and actually winning the title. I’m not expecting LeBron to win against the Warriors that year but at least close one damn game bruh.

First off, he was by far the leader of that team, and what he did at that age was remarkable to have a better record than the Undisputed at the time best team in the league Miami Heat. Heck even LeBron said that Derek Rose deserved that MVP. You can’t just go by numbers all the time, and if you did, than Wilt should’ve won 10 more MVP’s.
