So thankful for these movies. They bring back so many memories as a child. This is something my mom or aunts would have watched. Sometimes, if I got lucky, my mom wouldn't send me to bed. She'd let me cuddle up in the bed next to her while she watched them. Those were the good ol' days.

Its funny the main adult cast like Suzzane is in her forties, your're forties for some reason seems a time where one sees his or her life and says is my life or myself a failure, or not, especially when you were in you're forties during the start of the eighties. Is different to be in you're forties in 2020.I was 25 when this movie came out Sept of 1980, so what I can say now being 65, my forties were not the best, but that is life

Just wanted to thank you lalalondon for posting this. I am currently not living in the US and have been laid off and eventually let go after working in a hospital for 25 years. Watching these "oldies", which do not seem so old is so comforting. They not only feel more for realistic, but comfort me , living so far away and trying to get a grip on life after being known as "that American girl that works...". It is like a warm hug, when time, morals and value were familiar to me. BUT I hope that I will find some kind of volunteer work or something. I think that I am kind trying to run away to a time and place that does not exist anymore. To the world or anyone that reads this, I send my blessing to all of you , each and every one....be healthy, love all especially the people that are "not your cup of tea" . Be humble and helpful to all. You never know what each person cares in their heart or what they are going through. So weird to say...I have never really commented ....BUT THANKS FOR LETTING ME SHARE MY WORDS TO THE WORLD!!

When you love someone it doesn't matter if they're sick, or if they can give anything back. You're just glad to be near them, to make sure they're ok. You're grateful for every moment. One smile makes your day. It's not duty, or sacrifice. It's love. A year is no time- something is wrong if you already look somewhere else in such a short time.

Ooh, this movie is going to hit close to home I think. My husband has been severely depressed for a long time, sleeping all the time, and I guess you could say he’s had a nervous breakdown because he was off work for 2 months this year. Living with him and his mood swings is horrible. I’ve tried all I can to help him but he doesn’t want to help himself. I think that being a responsible adult is too much for some people when they realize real life is hard. I’ve already lived through my mother’s mental illness and eventual suicide when I was a child. It’s no life for someone to have their life slowly drained away. It’s hard to stay positive sometimes. But, I do love Suzanne Pleshette and maybe there will be a happy ending...
@johnberry5275
3 жыл бұрын
I'm curious. Which came first? The nervous breakdown? Or the 2-months off from work (during which time, your husband slowly "slipped into" depression and/or a nervous breakdown)? Personally, I have found that a great way to get a depressed person to _begin_ to "shake out of" their depression is to go to an amusement park, and ride a few of the "lower challenge" rides. The random shifts in Blood Volume, that occur as a ride shakes your body "to and fro", begins to make a person forget their troubles, and start to remember what "living" feels like. It is something to think about, anyways.

Hi Marilyn, what a sensitive and sensible woman you are. I don't know if you sought to know Jesus Christ from your heart. I do know Jesus is alive and can be known. It doesn't seem possible bc you cannot see Him, but He makes Himself known to any person that will let Him build that relationship. I have had times I couldn't wait to come before God and pray out of such depression. Just as the prayer began, I began to laugh instead of crying from my inner most self. The depression left entirely that day. I read the scriptures and I'm amazed that Jesus made Himself known to me. Amazed that I was who Jesus would want to know. If Jesus is not known to you, He's not hiding LOL. Just begin talking to Him. Your husband needs you to pray until he,too, will desire to know the Jesus of the Bible. Don't nag him. Just love him and know, confidently, that the Holy Spirit is far more interested in your husband's life than we can know or describe.

A very human, touching TV-movie. Suzanne Pleshette, is the gorgeous protagonist, whose husband has a stroke that leaves him paralyzed. With not enough money to pay for the hospital bills plus put food on the table, she goes out to find work and friends help her find that job. She also finds a new love interest, but she is torn between the loyalty to her comatose husband and the new suitor. A bravura performance from the gorgeous Suzanne, who couldn't be better. Do see this movie and you will cheer for this most-talented Hollywood icon of the 60's, 70's and 80's. She has a filmography that runs into infinity. Talk about humongous talent, Suzanne was IT.

very good movie. sad, funny, difficult, courageous, and so full of love. but for God, there go we. & we should count our blessings every day for each thing we have in our lives that is beyond this bewildering situation. I mean, including the difficult, trying, disapointing, & discouraging instances that we sometimes think we don't have the strength to manage. we do! We just need a breather now & then; time to think things through, reconnect, re-establish our way. mellow out, chill out- those easy cliches... actually not easy at all, but we have to give ourselves credit for our accomplishments and forgiveness for our weak failures. Its kind of heavy subject matter, but it shows how a loved ones mental illness affects the family dynamic.

Thank you for posting this moving and thought-provoking movie. The scene that hit me hardest is when Pleshette screamed "You're not a husband! You're not a father! You're not anything!" I especially liked the psychological nuances of the movie like her anger (jealousy?) over her son's relationship with his girlfriend. Did she make the right choice? On one hand, she stayed true to her wedding vows and avoided the sticky situation of dating her boss. On the other, she had a lot of chemistry with the lover, and he seemed like a decent guy who the kids actually tolerated and managed to find a shared interest with the teenager, which isn't easy. (We never find out if she ever told him about her husband reaching for her.) If this was real life, I could imagine Pleshette going back to him in a year if he's still available and the husband's still catatonic. Ultimately, you have to ask yourself what you would want for your spouse if you were the husband: fidelity or happiness?

It’s a difficult situation there’s no doubt about it. Each days Suzanne’s character goes thru life remembering what her husband once was, having to deal with the difficulties of day to day life, raiding 2 teens all on her own and having no love life. Does she remain in a doomed marriage or try to find a bit of happiness for herself?

GOOD MOVIE. I don't know weather Janet made the right decision or not, I can't judge her. But I really believe that life doesn't stay the same forever. No matter how hard life gets we have to look forward for a NEW BEGINNING.
