wow i love this cover but the irony is that the original song always sounded so sad to me that i can't really find much of the difference of this cover and the original in terms of the sadness it brings me (let aside the other feelings). They're just both sad. The original has a more overwhelming sense of emotions, though i like the calming sadness of this version too.

I've noticed as a musician that a lot of people when they "transform" songs that they do it extremely simply, to make it lofi you add a filter and a lot of reverb and it's done. I went into this expecting to hear the crackling sound filter and too much compression, but I was pleasantly surprised, good job :D

I'd argue that was the point of the original song. The grand melody contrasted with the lyrics, highlighting the highs the narrator had as a king, before at the end the music sober up to deliver the sad undertone. Reminded me of Ozymandias by Percy Shelley, where the grandiose claims hammered down further the sombre reality of the story.

There is a special and unique word in portuguese called "saudade", which no other language has. Saudade is the word we use to refer to the feeling of missing something or someone (ex: i am with saudades of you). The violin of the original song by Coldplay is just impecable at manifesting what saudade feels like. The drums when he talks about Jerusalem's bells perfectly summons a rising kingdom, the citizens in joy, the soldiers won the battle, the bard conquered his loved one, everything is beautiful the harmony is impecable. This guy's version is very good but the original version is simply an unmatched, unique and perfect masterpiece.

As a french, this song hits so much. It talks about French Revolution and the day when the french killed Louis XVI (revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate) in 1793. Before his execution, he wanted to give a speech but they didn't let him and he died without having the possibility to say the last few words to the French audience. That's kinda sad when you think of it. And some of the references in the original song are really related to him : "I held the key" = this phrase has of course a metaphorical meaning but also referred to Louis' passion: locksmithing. That's funny because before I never really paid intention to the lyrics but now it seems so clear to me

Basically u need two tools the key of the song and the circle of fifths. Every song (or part of a song in some cases) is written in a key, which could be major (happy tone) or minor (sad tone). Every key has a set of notes and a set of chords u can use to compose your song. The "circle of fifths" is a scheme that can be used to link a major key to its relative minor (e.g. if a song is in C major to make it sad u have to change alla C chords in Am chords, all E notes in Eb notes, all A notes in Ab notes and so on)

This version matches the 'lyrics' and base of the song, but the original matches the setting, the chaotic, loud crowd of the revolution, awaiting King Louis' execution. This version sounds like it would be used in a quiet area, looking back on past mistakes- but the original really captures the essence of the loud setting: Everyone booing and yelling words, the execution being rushed, King Louis having mere minutes to say his final speech, even whilst no one listens. Both are superb in their own way but I personally believe the original is made to capture the settings and emotions of the base of the song, the meaning.

This song really echoes on my pretty short 16 years of living in this floating ball of rock. I was an academic achiever back then on my elementary days, I always had what i wanted, everyone would be very happy to see me, its like im famous or something and everyone would just like me, they'd treat me right and basically everyone liked me, until one day, i lost the academic achievements, those achievements are like everything to me back then but i only realized it pretty recently, i started with an academic achiever streak to just a student until i reached rock bottom, which is now, now i even receive failing grades. I was on top of the world, I had a taste on what being the best feels like, and tbh it felt really amazing, now i lose the most important friends and people because of being irresponsible and being a stupid person. If you've reached this far and you relate to what im saying, if you are irresponsible and lazy as well, learn this lesson "Be Responsible, Work Hard And Smart" and change your life. I'd like to turn my life around, i hope you can turn yours as well.

Of course it would just take a change of attitude, but after a couple of years of not changing it gets demoralising. there are so many factors i could blame(such as covid and hanging out with a sketchy crowd), but im unconvinced, it's definitely my fault. im 16 too, and it was nice seeing this message, because of how much i resonate with it. I hope we both turn our lives around as soon as possible. Ahem. Let's go! We can do it!

I find that this song is very symbolic because it’s obviously about the King of France but for me it also meant how someone who had it all or at least could, suddenly loses everything that he had. Everyone is surprised of what he’d become. How was it possible for someone who had it all could be like this now… It could be associated with any situation, like moving to another country or place where you had everything, everyone knew you but now you have to start again without having any friends. Always appreciate all the moments you are living because soon they will disappear and another moment will come.

The original had a very nostalgic feel to it while this has a more sad song vibe to it. I kinda like the original more cause of the nostalgic chords that carried it through. But i like this one as well cause it's something i can just play and vibe with

I love the original but your version just lights up the lyrics and helps vividly picture the scene of loneliness, decline, the end of a king. It’s like ive waited for your version all this time but didn’t know it.

__Lyrics__ I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listened as the crowd would sing Now the old king is dead! Long live the king! One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain Once you'd gone, there was never Never an honest word That was when I ruled the world It was the wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn't believe what I'd become Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh, who would ever want to be king? I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know Saint Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world
