Literally over just 100 years ago we had a pandemic in 1918 and without a vaccine it killed 30 million people. If you look at the last 7 pandemics in history with vaccines we have about 4 million deaths world wide on average. Covid is over 6 million deaths world wide and this is because of people like you who don't bother to look at the science. Sagan would be appalled at how people like you have acted through this pandemic. No one has a problem with asking questions or questioning authority. But why are you so afraid to educate yourself and look up the science as well? In the whole history of vaccination any deaths we have with vaccines, come no where near close to how many lives they save. @@boredd9410 yes, forsooth you should be able to, by the right application of your reason, ascertain that God exists simply by the created things around you, without the aid of holy writings. But the unreasonable skepticism of Sagan asks one to forego the truth and come up with ridiculous theories to try to get around the existence of God; which is why the "Multiverse Theory" exists in the first place, because scientists can't explain how life began and they had to invent an idea that gave an infinite number of "universes" in order for the beyond astronomically small chance that even a single usable protein existed randomly.

@@AntonioEligius A small chance is an absolute certainty when you have hundreds of billions of planets for life to form on. A lot will have the necessary conditions (mostly liquid water) to allow life to live, and it's not crazy to imagine that on a few of them, proteins and RNA could form.

@AntonioEligius 1. He fails to consider RNA forming prior to proteins and DNA, which is not impossible or highly unlikely. 2. DNA being arranged in a highly specific way is easily explainable by natural selection. You don't have the right DNA sequence, you fail to reproduce and die, so organisms which do have the right DNA sequence(s) survive and pass it on. 3. Even if it was truly impossible for life to form on its own, that says nothing about the existence of God(s). I could come up with a thousand different ways for life to form, and all of them would be equally as valid as the Christian or Hindu explanation. This is also a God of the Gaps fallacy. @@williamoldaker5348 It only shows why it's important to practise your skepticism. Skepticism isn't "I don't believe anything". It is a tool you can use to test if your beliefs are justifiable. Understanding epistemology can help filter out unjustified beliefs from ones that have good justification. I think the increasing anti-intellectualism and belief in conspiracy theories from conservatives is showing it's colors more and more every day. It it all about protecting their own political and religious narrative. Conservatives don't seem to have a good track record on most of their political positions throughout history. From being pro-slavery, pro-segregation, anti-feminist, anti-lgbt and anti social change (or any change that can benefit a minority group in the country). They always seem to be one step behind the rest of the country, like the slow kid in class. Nowadays an increasingly large group of conservatives started accepting numerous conspiracy theories that have been uttered by political grifters and charlatans. From Trumps's anti-vax, qanon claims and encouraging an insurrection on jan 6 because of a conspiracy that he stoked. Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson's anti-trans propaganda that misrepresents the topic of trans people (and trans healthcare) and just stokes more hatred to an already misunderstood and marginalized group in the country. There are numerous other instances where conservatives are witnessing first hand that the world is not as simple as they understand it and it is changing in a way that they have no control over and that makes them uncomfortable. This is why it's easier for them to create their own narrative and conspiracy theories.
