If I had even one minute with the pope I would ask him what gives him or all of the preceding popes the right to take the place of Christ ! And that is exactly what popes and catholic priests do. We were never told in the new testament to go to a man to obtain forgiveness of sins. Nor were we ever told to pray to the mother of Christ. We have God to pray to and the Holy Spirit to guide us.

I live in a country dominated by roman catholicism. The problem I have with roman catholic is that they pray to saints. they touch the statues and think that they get some kind of divine power from it. Roman catholics also do not view their sins as entirely horrible. Their church has made Jesus more of a religion that a relationship.

Of course we can pray directly to Jesus, but we can also ask the saints to pray (interced) for us. It is like when you ask a friend to pray for you, and your friend will do it, he will not reject you and say "pray to God directly". It is an aid, they are friends in faith ! And if you read their lives you see they truly, really, sincerely loved God.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace." “your faith has healed you.” Faith is at the core of being saved. Works is just a result of it.

The rich young man had faith. The disciples had faith during the Bread of Life discourse but chose to walk away. Works are not a result of being saved. They complete faith. Without works, your faith is only a partial faith. It is not works in the sense of earning a wage but conforming our lives to Christ that we may be glorified with Him. It is faith working through love. What is love? Working for the good of God and neighbor in accordance with Christ's commandments to us.

I was confirmed Roman Catholic and received salvation at a different church. I have since gone back to the Catholic church as a mission field to lead others to the saving Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Many Catholics love the Lord and love hearing the Gospel. The uncertainty of the end of life, can be made certain by receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

So your a wolf in sheep's clothing? Leading the people of God astray as a psuedo-Catholic? There is absolutely no scripture in the Holy Bible that mentions that the fullness of salvation is assured no matter what our actions are here on earth. We need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling as St. Paul tells us, being an actual follower of Jesus the Christ. Not mere words can save us, but meshing our will with his. Probably in your beliefs you would stress the idea that actions do not save us, but you up old that a mere salvific prayer (a form of action) is what saves us at that moment. You go against the very thing you attack.

***** Read Verse 13 in particular. How can we encourage each other if we are uncertain of our destination? Jesus Christ saved my life and my soul. My life was transformed when I received the gift of Salvation. Good works are a fruit of the Spirit and not a penance. I have met with the priests in reconciliation and disclosed my faith and purpose. What if you knew today that all of your sins were forgiven and you would be in heaven when you die? Does this make you want to go out and sin more, or does it bring you to your knees in thanksgiving. 1 John 5 5 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. 19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

***** I receive grief from protestants for going to the Catholic Church and I receive grief from the Catholics for going to protestant churches. The division between Christian denominations is counter productive toward the Kingdom of God. I was denied the Sacraments of marriage, Communion, and baptism for my children, yet I returned to the Catholic Church that shunned me with mean priests. It was not until I received the gift of Salvation, that I recognized that priest were men who sinned too. I go to places where others won't and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Saving Grace. Many peoples lives have been changed by preaching the Gospel and that Jesus died for all sin. We are not given permission to sin, but we are given Grace when we fail. You and I both know that we will sin again before we die. We must have confidence in the Sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Cross. God Bless.

SuperCal I as a Roman Catholic would agree with you that Good works come as the fruition of a legitimate and alive faith in our Lord. Both of these build on each other, one without the other is dead as scripture tells us. Our God is not the author of confusion and would not set up a doctrinally corruptible system. When God established his church, he was just as clear with his apostles; as the Father was with ancient Jews of the Old Covenant. A hierarchal and authoritative structure is how our God chooses to guard and protect his chosen on our pilgrimage though life. God promised us that the gates of hell would not prevail against his church; the Holy Spirit protects and guides it. He uses us humans, a fallen people, to run a perfect system. That is the beautiful part, just as God is divine and man, so is the nature of his Church. Priests, the Pope etc. are all human and sin, but God assures us a home with him. Christ prays that we will one, just as he is united as one with the Father. Denominationalism is an abomination, an abhorrent departure from plain truth passed down and secured by our Church. God makes mistakes? There are about 32,000 Protestant denominations...Each with its own flavor of theology. God save us all. Don't worry I'm reminded of the love and power of Christ Jesus every time at the altar, I'm reminded his once and for all sacrifice on the cross that opened the door to salvation for all. Don't leave Jesus, because of Judas.

***** I was baptized Roman Catholic, but questioned forgiveness of sins by a priest just before my first Communion. If God is everywhere, why must I ask a priest forgiveness for my sins. This is how Catholics do it. I asked many questions, but made confirmation as Roman Catholic. Many of my Catholic friend did not even believe in God anymore, but they were married in church. When I decided to get married, I had more questions, and I was denied the Sacrament of marriage. When I had children I tried again, but I was denied the Sacrament of Baptism for my children. I was ananthema for asking why, when other people's children born out of wedlock were baptized. Good for those children, by the way. Can you see my problem? I love Roman Catholics, love the Pope, and love the Lord more than ever before, but find difficulty working my way back into the Catholic Church. The Lord uses me in ways that only He could. I encourage Catholics to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which helps free us from the condemnation of sin and reconciles us with God. None of these Sacraments were explained, just imposed. It was not until I chose to be a Christian, that God began to move, through the Holy Spirit, in my life. I have met with priests, and they are encouraged by my evangelical nature, and my willingness to openly share the Gospel. I asked the Lord to make Himself real to me, and I asked to be used by Him. This was the scariest prayer of my life. I am confirmed Roman Catholic. I have never denounced my faith. I have question my faith to only make it stronger. This world is a mission field. We are to go out into all the world and proclaim the Saving Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. I will be held to a higher standard, so I am careful what I preach. May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with You.

The name Peter (Gk., Petros) means “rock” or “rock-man.” In the next phrase Christ used petra (upon this rock), a feminine form for “rock,” not a name. Christ used a play on words. He does not say “upon you, Peter” or “upon your successors,” but “upon this rock”-upon this divine revelation and profession of faith in Christ.

What the Bible says : Mat 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. To the naively ignorant, the English words “Peter” and “rock” are so different that it’s obvious that Jesus was referring to the faith Simon Peter received as a gift from the Father. Behind the Greek was the Aramaic which Jesus originally spoke, in which the word for Peter and rock are identical-kepha. Once I saw that Jesus had said essentially “You are kepha and on this kepha I will build my Church,” I knew I was in trouble. For instance, I'm french and in french the bible verse is "tu es Pierre (you are Peter), et sur cette Pierre (and on this Rock) je batirais mon Eglise.." Because Kepha is the Kepha, the Rock !

@@skylinestudiosrc Peter was a man, a frail man, who was once a sinner, but God saved him through His Son Jesus Christ. Peter was not the rock on which the church of Jesus Christ could be built. That foundation had to be much purer that Peter was even as an apostle. The foundation laid was Jesus Christ Himself. Paul says - "For of God we are fellow-workers, a field of God, and you are a building of God. According to God's grace given to me, as a wise master builder, I laid a foundation, but another builds on it. But let each one be careful how he builds. For no one is able to lay any other foundation beside the One having been laid, who is Jesus Christ." 1 Cor 3:9-11 Jesus Christ alone is the foundation that was laid and He was laid down by God the Father at His death on the cross. Peter could never have fulfilled that task. again Paul says - "So, then, you are no longer strangers and tenants, but you are fellow citizens of the saints and of the family of God, being built up on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the cornerstone, in whom all the building being fitted together grows into a holy temple in the Lord," Ephesians 2:19-21 Peter is only one of a number of foundation stones but he was NOT and is NOT the main foundation. Jesus Christ is the first and most important foundation stone of all. Jesus is the First and the Last. Revelation 22:13 Peter speaking of the prophecy in Isaiah 28:16, bears witness of Jesus Christ this way - "Because of this, it is also contained in the Scripture: "Behold," I lay in Zion" an elect, "precious Stone," "a Corner-foundation;" "and the one believing in Him shall not be ashamed, never!" " 1 Peter 2:6 Peter was NOT the rock on which Jesus would build His church - His faithful disciples..

@@ianmcdonald8648 Peter is the rock. One thing is a fact, the apostles and Jesus didn't speak the greek or at least in their everyday life. They spoke Aramaic. The aramaic words for Peter and Rock were the same. Now, if you want to talk about the greek, we can. Greek scholars admit, the words petros and petra were synonyms in first century Greek. They meant “small stone” and “large rock” in some ancient Greek poetry, centuries before the time of Christ, but that distinction had disappeared from the language by the time Matthew’s Gospel was rendered in Greek. The difference in meaning can only be found in Attic Greek, but the New Testament was written in Koine Greek. This is an entirely different dialect. In Koine Greek, both petros and petra simply meant “rock.” If Jesus had wanted to call Simon a small stone, the Greek lithos would have been used. Look it up !

@@skylinestudiosrc while you agree that Peter was a sinner but saved by grace, that is good. But if you insist in the idea that Peter is the rock' upon which Jesus was to build His church, then you are wrong, and I cannot agree with you. I ask you the following: If Peter alone was given the keys to the kingdom, and he was the rock upon which Jesus was to build his church, then why don't we find Peter in his 2 letters making any reference to this idea? And why don't we find in Acts 15, any mention of this 'fact' by James or any of the other apostles? It was James who gave the final word as to what they had to decide for the church of Jesus in Anticoch and elsewhere. And why did Peter say to Cornelius when the centurion bowed down before Peter - stand up, I am only a man? Yet, your popes have always allowed men to grovel at the feet or kiss the hand or 'ring'. Why don;t they follow Peter's example? Why do your popes get all dollied up with all kinds of religious garb that has nothign to do with Christ or His new life that we can and should have, and why do they surround themselves in religious lavishness? Peter did not do this. Why don;t your popes get crucified upside down as it is said that Peter was, because he did not think he was worhty to be upright ion his cross? Why do your popes expect to be called "Father" or worse "Holy Father" when Peter never suggested that any one call him by such titles? If Peter was truly the founder of the Roman Catholic church - the only true church as you fold claim under God, why don't you do as Peter did. seeing you all claim that he is your father? And why don't you Roman Catholic people take heed to Peter's own words? He said - "Let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in this name this one stand before you whole. This one is the stone counted worthless by you builders, the one who has come to be into the Head of the corner, and there is salvation in no other , for neither is there any other name under heaven given among men by which you must be saved" Acts 4:10-12. No other name under heaven, not the name of a church, not the name of any saint, not the name of Mary, not the name of any pope, not the name of tradition, or of the wrtitings of the church fathers, not the name of anything or any living creature; but ONLY the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene. Why don't you people take that to heart in practice? And have you noticed what Peter wrote of himself? "Peter, and apostle...." 1 Peter 1:1 He simply says he is an apostle. NOT THE apostle? Don;t you think that Peter would have had full right to say if he was the chief apostle to say that if Jesus had have told him that he alone had the keys of the kigndom? Then later in this first letter he says.. "I, a fellow elder, exhort the elders among you..." 1 Peter 5:1 Why then doesn't he take this opportunity to "humbly" say that I am the chief apostle and by all the power that Jesus invested in me I exhort you (etc, etc)....?" And then in his second leter hs says.. "Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those EQUALLY precious with us..." Why does he talk this way of himself and identifies himself not as any head of any church, but simply as a slave and one of many apostles of Jesus Christ? The reason why he doesn't say such things is because he never was given this position like you popes and cardinals claim. And , why don't your priests and bishops and cardinals read, and preach from Peter's letters every 'mass', and give the man the prominence you all say he deserves? And lastly, If Peter is the first pope of Rome, the rock on which Jesus was to build His church, you are then obliged my friend to read zealously these two letters of Peter and learn them off by heart, and live in those instructions he gives, and then read every other thing that is recorded of Peter throughout all the NT in order to get a better understanding of the man and his calling. safe journey pilgrim, there are many pitfalls along the way...

I am with you Bro. Piper! Two minutes, you have to get straight to the pertinent point and this is what I try to keep in mind dealing with Roman Catholics! The main issue is Justification and how we are actually “justified!” To get straight to the differences (and push away all the “ecumenical” stuff), I would likely deal with “Faith vs. Works” and bring to light that we even disagree as to what “Faith” actually is! And make sure the argument is not “you and him” but “God and the truth!”

Jesus does not teach by faith alone. When asked how do we get to heaven by the lawyer he said obey the commandments and then he told the parable of the good samaritan which is about how you behave not what you believe (Lk 10:25-37). In his parable on the last judgement he tells us clearly how we will be judged, "when i was hungry you fed me, when i was in prison you visited me . . ." (Mathew 25:31-36) James says 'faith without works is dead" and Paul said i can have the faith that moves mountains but without love i am nothing. Yes we are saved by the grace of Christ but that grace has to be put into action. Faith is much more about how you act then what you believe as Jesus confirms in the following quote: "not everyone who says to me Lord, lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father" (Mt 7:21-23) Protestants have rejected the pope established by Christ himself as the rock on which he will build HIS church and replaced him with Paul. And they then claim the authority of the Bible which the Catholic Church itself put together and gave them. The Bible is a Catholic book! Jesus did not write a book but he founded a Church and the Bible is part of the tradition and life of the Church. If I had two miniutes with a protestant i would ask the why they dont believe in the catholic and orthodox understanding of the eucharist since it is clearly stated around 10 times in scripture (Jn 6:35-60) It is also mentioned in the three synoptic gospels where Jesus says, "take and eat this IS my Body". St Paul says the same thing in 1 corinthians 11:29. And yet protestants tell us they follow the bible where as catholics dont. I rather be in a church founded by Christ then one founded by a German monk 500 years ago!

I will not pray to Mary or have a statue of her for it may be considered as idolatry. I don't need Pope. He's just like me, a mere human. He's not a prophet in the Bible. He's no one. I may respect him for his faith, but even that is questionable. He acts like a king while Christ died on the cross. What does that tell you? It's not Christianity.

Zachariah the Hail Mary is in the Bible (Luke 1). Also, we believe there is one mediator, but we believe people (on Earth or in Heaven) can pray for us, to Jesus Christ. Question, do you ask your friends to pray for you? Why, if Jesus is the only mediator?

@@zachariah7114 very simple answer to your question Mary is not a mediator in the Catholic Church she is an intercessor. All Christians are called to be intercessors for one another by St. Paul. Anyone who uses Timothy 2:5 to dispute prayer to Mary for intercession does not understand Catholic Doctrine. God bless.

If I had two minutes to with the Pope I would simply ask him to pray with me - We would begin with the Sign of the Cross, and then pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be and the Fatima Prayer. If we had some seconds left, I would ask him to pray the Memorare with me. Then we would close with a Sign of the Cross. Viva il Papa!

The tradition of purgatory established by the Roman Catholic church cannot find its support in either Old Testament Scripture/ Judaic tradition or New Testament Scripture/ Apostolic tradition. That the Roman Catholic church would introduce such a tradition without basis speaks to the questioning of its other traditions. If nothing else disqualifies the Roman Catholic church from being the true church of Christ, the introduction of the idea of purgatory should, because it is a blatant falsehood.
@eroszakos9042

Purgatory is philosophically a necessity for entrance into heaven. Additionally, if Martin Luther didn't hate the Bible so much, you would still have books like Maccabees 1&2 where you would see that the Jews found it very important to pray for the deceased, which strongly shows the existence of purgatory.

Gilgamesh of Uruk, Maccabees isn't officially part of the Bible, and there are good reasons for it. Please read a good official translation of the Bible (I find the Amplified Bible illuminating). False information, unbiblical beliefs and practices and wishful thinking are not going to get you into heaven. People perish for lack of knowledge, therefore you need to make sure that your sources of information are trustworthy. Philosophy means nothing -- you need the authentic Word of God. You have your facts wrong -- Martin Luther valued the Bible (the authentic Word of God) very highly -- so highly that he was willing to publicly protest against the Roman Catholic Church's perversion of the truth. He had found the truth and was set free by it -- free to fearlessly love and obey the God of the Bible, the Only True God (all the others are counterfeits). Jesus Himself warned us to beware of false preachers, false prophets and false Christs. The Roman Catholic Church is a heretical cult, and it is not the only one. There are many, many false preachers, false prophets and Christian cults in the world. Wishing you all the best. Please be assured that I do not think I'm any better (in and of myself) than any other human being on this earth. ("There but for the Grace of God go I.")

@AlrinaleRoux Not officially a part of the Bible according to who? Protestants? On what authority do they make that claim? Yeah, cause just "reading the Bible" brings everyone to the right beliefs. That's why so many atheists have read the Bible. "False information, unbiblical beliefs and practices and wishful thinking are not going to get you into heaven." Isn't the whole "saved through faith" thing all about wishful thinking? "Martin Luther valued the Bible" No. He valued *his idea* of the Bible. He valued it so much he was willing to divide Christ's Church over it. Great guy. "The Roman Catholic Church is a heretical cult, and it is not the only one. There are many, many false preachers, false prophets and Christian cults in the world." I also find it torturingly ironic when Protestants call Catholicism heresy. You're right, about there being more than one heresy, there are over 33K Protestant denominations in existence right now, and they are all wrong about multiple things. "Wishing you all the best. Please be assured that I do not think I'm any better (in and of myself) than any other human being on this earth. ("There but for the Grace of God go I.")" Okay, I wish you the best too. For they preach, but do not practice. 4They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,a and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues 7and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbib by others. 8But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers.c 9And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. 11The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. 13“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.d 15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of helle as yourselves. 16“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? 18And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ 19You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it. 22And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it. 23“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! 25“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean. 27“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. 28So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. 29“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, 30saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell? 34Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah,f whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

+nemirc Simple reason why "Once saved always saved" is valid: if someone claims to be saved but robs a bank just to enrich himself because of his love for money, then he wasnt saved to begin with. Actually, TRUE salvation will make someone reject the idea of stealing, and even ask forgiveness for even having such a thought. James explained how the WORKS come as a result of salvation - Works are not the cause of salvation; Christ said that through works you will know who is really saved, just like it's from an apple that you know a tree is an apple tree; simply calling Jesus "Lord" is not enough for salvation if your life doesnt change after the knowledge of God's sacrifice. Just like a "vegan" enjoying meat was never a vegan to begin with, a christian who sins without guilt and doesnt repent as a result of it is not a real christian. Piper adds "alone" to "faith" because the catholic doctrines teach that following sacrament is needed for salvation, and baptism, and to some extent passage through purgatory, which is not true. Didn't Christ himself say that the thief next to him would be in heaven with him? And yet, the thief hasnt followed any sacrament not got baptised after realising that Christ is God. Why's that? Because faith in God is what causes true salvation.

Let no one do anything touching the Church, apart from the bishop. Let that celebration of the Eucharist be considered valid which is held under the bishop or anyone who he has committed it. Where the bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the CATHOLIC Church (emphasis mine). It is not permitted without authorization of the bishop either to baptize….He who honors the bishop is honored by God. One day, we were sitting together at a barbecue and I said to someone across the table, "We are not judged by works!" and the priest quickly corrected me, "ohhhhhh yes we are!" I was so confused by that (and embarrassed) so, I read the Bible again. and again. and again. The entire Bible. I just couldn't find it anywhere. Then, I found out that catholic people think that their bread and wine change (literally, not figuratively) into the actual body and blood of Christ! Whuuuuuut up with this? If yes, then your beliefs are indirect contradictions with with the catholic doctrines. Meaning that if you are right, they are wrong, and if they are right, then you are wrong. There is no in-between with God. If you are right and they are wrong, then they are damned to hell. So which is more loving? To all knowingly allow your catholics friends to be damned to hell? Or wake them up from their illusions so that you would see them in heaven? The bible is clear that the devil will cause confusion in the world, making false christs who will deceive people into thinking they are saved, but are not. The bible says that Christ said no one can go to the Father except through him, while the pope says those who do not believe in Christ can still go to heaven. So whose word do you believe in? The pope? or Christ?

no, that's not what we teach, here is what we teach we teach that we are saved by grace alone, not by faith alone, and that our faith is what allows us to acquire grace and be justified, after justification we must cooperate with God's grace by doing good works by the love of Christ that part is called sanctification and is completed at Purgatory so in other words, to sum it up, we believe that we attain original justification through faith by baptism, which bestows on us sanctifying grace, and then once we are justified we are still able to lose justification through sinning, but we must continue to endure till the end we are saved by Grace alone, through faith working in love

As long as you have a relationship with Jesus Christ it doesn't really matter which denomination you belong to. My sister is catholic and I know for certain she is going to heaven. Blessings and power to you.

I like John Piper but I'm a little disappointed in his answer here. What does he mean by "Rome and Protestantism are not yet ready"?? They will NEVER be ready. We all know very well that Rome has ZERO desire to follow Christ. Spiritual wickedness in high places. We don't even need 2 whole minutes, we just need to say "I rebuke you Satan!"

Many people change their beliefs to follow truth. While I disagree with you that the Catholic Church is false (I'm a Catholic convert/revert from Evangelicalism) you should recall the many vicious, evil, hard-hearted, and heretical people who have turned Christ throughout the millennia. Pray for truth my friend; seek God, draw nearer to Him, read His word, and preach His Truth. Pray that all Christians (Catholic, Protestant, and otherwise) be drawn to the fullness of truth in Christ and our disagreements be resolved in truth and love. We are in a war with the Devil, and he is seeking the ruin of souls my friend. We must give our all to Christ in this battle and ever guard our hearts and minds and bodies against his wickedness and snares. God bless you!

That's ridiculous. You have two whole minutes to converse with a man who disagrees with you. You can either try to convince him of your point, or you can essentially spit in his face. Through your argument you may convert him(unlikely) or you could gain knowledge of his beliefs which you can later use to try to create a relationship with catholics, and lead them to true christianity.

creditwisela we all just need to look at the book of rev.. the harlot riding the beast is all decked out in purple, scarlot and precious stones and gold, drinking out of a gold cup.. that clearly is speaking of the Roman Catholic church with its kingdom sitting on the 7 hills.. anyone with a biblical understanding sees how these things lime up to conclude that the pope Is the Antichrist running the mother church which is the harlot riding the beast.. let me just state the colors and what they represent.. cardinals are the scarlet and the bishops purple and the gold is simply all the gold that the church is decorated with along with the stones... and the Gold cup, I mean seriously, it's completely obvious... all the popes hold it and drink and have everyone participate in it's abominations..

The Catholic view of Salvation is that Christ’s death is a sacrifice of atonement (see Leviticus chapter 5). Christ offers himself, not just nails through his wrists, but his whole life is a offering given to God. Holy Week is Christ displaying before our very 👀 the ethic that he commands for us. Christ surrenders himself to wicked men who martyr him, not God killing Christ, but us. Not as a penal substitution but as a martyr to charity, holiness and righteousness. As Paul says he took on the nature of a servant, obedient to death on a Cross, therefore God exalted him.

“Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century. The holy day,the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday. ‘The day of the Lord’ was chosen, not from any direction noted in the Scriptures, but from the (Catholic)Church’s sense of its own power...People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become 7th Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.”St. Catherine Church Sentinel,Algonac,Michigan,May21,1995

Yes John Piper is right. Both Protestants and Catholics need to be saved . We all need a savior and Jesus gave us the keys to the kingdom in Acts 3:38 Repentance from sin and calling on the Lord Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. Baptism always followed immediately after believing and then being delivered and filled with the Holy Spirit of promise by asking the Lord Jesus to fill us with His Holy Spirit now that we’re cleansed of all unrighteousness Call on the Lord Jesus right now and have eternal life

@twowitnessesoftheson How about these? Luke 22:32 "But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers" John 21:15-17 where Jesus tells Peter three times to feed/take care of his sheep Matthew 16:18 where Jesus calls Peter the rock on which he will build the church. These build a very solid case for Peter's unique role, without even mentioning how Peter's name is almost always mentioned first, and his name was changed to Rock.

If I had 2 minutes with the Pope I'd present the Gospel message of Christ and then ask him if he'd give his life to Jesus. If he said "Yes". I'd lead him in prayer where he would repent of his sins and turn from his wicked ways.

Danny... where you end up in eternity is a lot more important then art, science and general theology. Only through belief in Jesus Christ that He died for your sins and turning back to God through repentance will you be in heaven. It's your choice and a very serious one.

Since the Pope (or Catholics in general) do not followed reformed theology that Piper would consider him a heretic for that alone, no matter what the Pope had to say. But simply put, we are saved by grace through faith, but not faith alone.

@TheLordAwaked I'm saying the first person in recorded history to have all the books of the bible in one collection was St Athanasus around 360AD. It took nearly four centuries until the books came together. It was in 382 AD at the Synod of Rome where a can was decided. And it was ratified by Hippo and Carthage at 393 and 397 AD. If you lived in Corinth around 70AD all you'd have is one or two of St Paul's letters and the Greek Septuagint Old Testament, which had books like 2 Maccabees.

@jamaicanification God bless you for your kindness and understanding. I have many Protestant friends and consider the ones who don't speak ignorant garbage about it to be as much my brothers as my Catholic brothers. Catholic prejudice can sometimes become so intense that whenever someone says a Catholic is a Christian it makes me very happy. So thank you for being a true Christian.

@rtarasiak (cont) The verses I provided are all examples of times when we are told that we must do works as well. Not works of the Law (such as those Paul speaks of frequently), but works done that complete our faith. If we are to look at the entire Bible in context, we see that salvation comes by grace through faith and works. Any other conclusion must omit or explain away the clear meaning of certain verses. Please let me know if you disagree with any of my exegesis. God bless.

I don't know if Francis does. But I have found some Catholic priests and bishops online answering that question pretty satisfactorily. It's a difficult thing for me to maneuver through, though, as a life-long protestant trying to get to the truth of the more liturgical denominations instead of the vaguely cartoonish versions I was raised believing them to be. And as a friend says (even regarding those somewhat more peripheral things), there's a reason there was a reformation.

Always lovely to see religious people disagree about the unfalsifiable claims they make. "All religions are wrong except mine" is the only universal dogma throughout human history.
