My husband literally just had a CC score that was about 800 so the doctor had him do ultrasound on all his arteries and veins which came out clear. His blood flow is wall-to-wall. He has no calcium in his carotid arteries none in the aorta I think there was a minimal tiny amount somewhere but nothing she said to be concerned about. It literally comes up as nothing, next is a nuclear stress test. He has never had high blood pressure or Adema or any signs of anything like heart related but yet they’re making him take Crestor 40 mg and now he’s having muscle cramps I think after the stress test he’s going to get off the Crestor. Luckily he’s only been on for a couple of weeks.

I'm a new registered practical nurse and I hate administering statins to patients, but I feel I don't have enough experience (read: clout) in healthcare yet to advise against it for fear of getting in trouble. It's ridiculous how many medications so many patients are on. The worst is the antibiotics ordered without any gut support. Without fail, tons of our patients end up getting C. Diff, which of course means MORE (harsher) antibiotics. I can't wait to look into studies more and build up my credibility so I can start pushing back against some of these things that worsen patient outcomes. But ultimately I'll have to get out of the hospital setting and into home care because hospitals do not provide holistic health care.

I'm a physician and was on the fence for years about whether to take a statin. I was on one for a couple of years but stopped it after losing weight. My LDL remains elevated at 150. But what really tipped the scales for me in terms of deciding that I didn't want to continue on a statin was a podcast discussion on KZitem between Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Robert Lustig. They talked about how LDL is what we treat in medicine because it's what we've got meds for. And if we're going to follow LDL, we should be monitoring the LDL-P (LDL particle number) -- most doctors don't check this.

@@chozen_juan I don’t remember the dosage but it was the smallest dose given for a new medication. I’ve now gone through all the statins, the latest was Crestor about a month ago. I am now on Zetia 10 mg daily and still having short term memory issues, I call it ‘losing my words’. Also getting lost in the small town where I live. I had an MRI of my head on Monday and it was clear for any signs of stroke. At least this doctor listened to me. I chalk it up to a major health crisis in June of 2023. I was admitted for testing because my b/p was too low. I hemorrhaged from a malfunction of my Swan-Ganz catheter, Code Blue and 7 medical staff rushed me back to the cath lab, fixed the tear in my pulmonary artery and put me on a ventilator for 2 days……then 10 days later I had open heart surgery to remove my natural valve and a TAVR valve and give me a new one……..then, 8 days after that, I had to have a pacemaker. All this in 22 days in the best hospital I could have been in for living through this. So, my point is that I don’t know if the Zetia is messing with my brain or this is the new me. I’m 72, live alone and pretty much back to normal now. These other responses were scattered over 20 years or so and was not affected by any health crises. Even with ice cream I'm at about 1500 calories a day. I am a smoker (date is set to quit) and that's what she blames all of the symptoms on, but these symptoms didn't start until I started taking my statin. I feel many doctors prescribe medications to cause other problems in order to prescribe another med and so on and so on. Plants and animals were put on this earth to provide what we need. I need to find a doctor that listens and create a healthy care plan not just prescribe a pill. It also matters if you eat organic or non organic. For starters they took blood lab they never told me what it was for. Right then and there was when I should have walked out. I let it go thinking a report would be sent to me. I can’t even track it down. A statin I’d been taking before was increased. I was given blood pressure meds. I’ve never had high blood pressure. I stopped the statin completely and never took the Bo meds. It’s all about medication and tests and exams that shouldn’t have to be done every year. It feels like the 60-year-old population is an absolute gold mine to the pharmaceutical and medical industry. I no longer use this organization. We all need to become informed about our health and be proactive. This organization trying to pull the wool over my eyes has been the best thing for me because now I research for myself.

My endocrinologist, with a knee jerk reaction? Knowing I’m at times pre diabetic has already started the push to get me on statins. Right now no heart or blood vessel issues. I have a great diet. I’m not up for a debate or arguing. I may take and fill the prescription and never take it. I was forced on to ARVs and was not sick. I lost my liver due to medication and it caused all these other issues. I tested again 23 years later and tested negative. I was never sick!!!!!

WELL!!! My brother (61 yo 181cm 79kg regular runner) was taken off a statin, half a year later he got a blood clot in the brain and in the intensive care unit he got several more. He was given statins again, but damage had been done..... Is it worth the risk ???

I had four stents placed in my heart two years ago, I recently had another nuclear stress test, and my cardiologist said that my stents were as open as they were when they replace in my heart, they wanted me to take statins and I refused ,now I know that I made the right decision ! PS. I would like to make one other comment, after I had stents placed they tried putting me on Plavix, I did my research, and I started taking aspirin instead and fish oil , again no problems with my stents ! I’m just making know what I did and what results I have. I’m not advocating anything.

6 months on Atorvastatin, came off them because my mouth was so sore to the extent I had to purée food. Things improved, tried them again as I’m told I’ve a one in ten chance of a heart attack, same problem. I don’t take them anymore, trying alternative medicine and it seems to be working 👍🏼 awful things 🤢

Dr. Berry, can you please cite sources that show scientific evidence of this? My husband is on rosouvastatin and I want him off yesterday. He absolutely refuses to even hear me out. He has many friends who are doctors and thinks they are the end all say all. If I have legit sources I can go head to head with his walk on water doctor friends.

I would have thought someone taking statins without a previous event like heart surgery or stents is not in the same category as someone who has undergone a procedure. So my question is whether statins are required for those who have stents placed and the option to stop them is not advised. Thank You.

I will start with I an a vet. The doctor wanted me on a statin and I did some research and after a a couple weeks agreed to go on Ezetimibe. 3 weeks on it, I started having anxiety attacks and my old PTSD kicked in. I had no idea it was from the statin. I had to talked to the VA and others to get help. It would be 3.5 months later that I researching cholesterol meds when I found and old forum on the medicine and it causing PTSD to come back for vets and other mental issues. I just did my blood work and my LDL is 131 and I can see Zorcor coming my way. 131 is not that high why are they pushing it. My LDL has never been below 100. It is always between 110 to 150.

Last summer, I was deemed pre-diabetic by my PCP. My cholesterol has always been on the higher side but there is no history of heart disease in my family. I agreed to take a statin. In the meantime, I've changed my diet and worked out 6 days per week. I lost 40 pounds (I'm 6' now 210and counting down) by my most recent physical where I was informed that my A1C shot up from 6.1 to 11.3. Aside from the healthy changes I made the only difference has been the statin. Coincidence?

I lowered my chocolate intake from a family block a day to around 2 small squares a week. Only negative so far is I haven’t lost an ounce of weight… I’m only slightly overweight but I am 63.

Thank you for providing your sources. Conclusion that Dr. Ken makes based on the cited study is misleading. For instance the study of effect of statin medication on testosterone, is done only among patients with diabetes which by itself lower testosterone. For general population the referenced article indicates “Studies in humans, mostly involving small numbers of men, have shown various results. The majority have shown no effect of statins on testosterone levels (4-8), but some have shown reduced testosterone levels with simvastatin treatment (9-11)” . Then effect of different statin medication is found to be different: “Men treated with simvastatin did not have significantly different total, bioavailable, or free testosterone, estradiol, or SHBG levels than untreated men (Fig. 1 and Table 1).” So please dig deeper.

So just out of the blue at my yearly checkup last year (mid 50s), my NP prescribed me a statin and said I should take it as "preventative" medicine. My HDL and LDL are WNL. I am not taking a drug I don't need and can potentially harm me. The Rx was sent to my pharmacy anyways, and they filled it along with an SSRI I take. I didn't ask for it, I took it home, and it sits there unused. I have refused all the refills. That is my story. Boring, but there it is.

Being a Brit, the first thing doctors will do on the NHS for high Cholesterol is issue Statins! They don’t want to discuss a natural way forward other than Statins leads the way and diet secondary. Please review Joe Rogan discussion with a British Cardiologist who put his career on the line suggesting the Over Prescribing of Statins. I really wish the medical GP’s in this country took a few leaf’s out of your book. Thank you for all your suggestions.

It would have been far better to quote the percentage of patients who are affected by these 7 problems you point out. There are millions of people on statins and, you make it seem like everyone is in danger. Why not post actual clinical tests and the percentage of patients who are affected by taking statins? It won't boost your KZitem page, but it would be the right thing to do.

I tried 4 different statins and got screaming leg cramps that wouldn't quit within 2-3 weeks of starting each one of these nasty meds. Also worsening of already existent stomach pain and diarrhea, both originally caused by excessive antibiotic use from repeated UTIs. So, finally, told my cardio doc "the quickest Rx pad in the West" NO MORE STATINS. So he Rx'd Ezetimibe/Zetia, which I've read is designed to boost statins, not replace them. NO to this one, it gave me vivid nightmares within the first week! Then the doc's new N.P. Rx'd Lopid, another non-statin that has stomach pain and diarrhea listed as its first two most common side effects. Oh, and it can cause ATRIAL FIBRILLATION, and I'm already on a beta blocker and an ARB to keep my "S-T wave inversion" (their words, not mine) in check. No way in hell will I even try this one. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THESE IDIOT PILL PUSHERS? I just gave the cardio doc copies of my DNR/Advance Directive papers. I'm so pissed off I don't want to go back. My cholesterol-related irregularities are within 10% of "normal" values, and I have no history of prior heart attack. This Cardio doc is the one who told me less than a year ago that there is NO DRUG that will magically lower triglycerides, NO DRUG that will magically fix LDL levels, and that I have hereditary, "garden variety" sludge in my arteries - but this is without any sort of proof. Cardio doc won't order the coronary artery scan I asked for; how the hell does he know that there's actually a problem with calcium/hard plaque deposits? He also won't order the cholesterol particle size & density tests. I have no shortness of breath, can climb stairs just fine, have no swelling in my legs, no chest pain. Just a frigging headache everytime I think of returning to this doc's office. I'm mentally ready to die right now. I'm supposed to have the ultimate say in what happens to MY BODY, not the docs.

I was on statins (lipitor and then crestor) for six months (eventually quit due to myalgia and elevated CK). During my course of treatment, I supplemented with CoQ10, as I knew that statins deplete it--but the supplements didn't help, and I still experienced terrible symptoms. I've seen commentary since then confirming that CoQ10 supplementation doesn't seem to make any difference: whatever damage statins are doing to the CoQ10 pathway, a supplement isn't going to fix it.

Dr. Berry, a youtuber called carnivore soldier has a video titled, “I Put My Dog On A Carnivore Diet and You Won’t Believe It.” I think everyone should switch their dogs from kibble food (kibbles foods are all plant based with little meat so not their natural way of eating- dogs should only eat meat since they too are carnivores) and feed their dogs a carnivore diet! Someone needs to make a recommended feeding chart that considers weight and age, and with meat foods to mix in together so balanced with minerals and vitamins. But again, the recommended vitamin / mineral chart for dogs is probably wrong too- as it’s not based on a full carnivore diet. They won’t have natural plant toxins binding their nutrients and flushing it out. So the recommended amounts are probably too high. Same is going on for recommended amounts for humans. Our current RDA is not science based and designed by those 7th Day Adventists Christians that even designed our heavy plant based food pyramids to ruin human health. (Watch Belinda Fattke on that info.) Guess the 7th Day Adventist Christians wanted to ruin our dog’s health too. Dogs supposed to live longer, and getting same illnesses, diseases, and cancers as humans due to the natural plant toxins in their kibbles.
