I totally hate "campers"!! Reasons why 1) they sit on the same drink for ages 2)they assume that us servers have no lives, and don't have families at home to take care of. 3) when you call last drinks, they whinge that your closing, even though they haven't spent money in the last hour and half, but somehow you have to stay open for them when it's only 2 or three people in the bar. 4) when you finally get to closing time, they still won't leave the bar, even when you politely ask them to leave because the bar is closed..

I work at a luxury hotel where I bartend private events. We mainly have open bars and all the men(women don't do this) as they walk up to my bar, nudge their buddy in the arm and say "hey, go ahead and order whatever you want. Im buying Ha. Ha. Ha." Obviously an open bar is free(also, no one tips at open bars). I always resist the urge to say "oh yeah? So you're leaving a tip for all these drinks, right?" The only difference is that we get paid $20 an hour, so it really makes up for non tippers.

Just be considerate and overtip and you will be remembered and treated very nicely. It has always worked for me. Also, I order double scotch neat so as to not be a pest. Tip waaaaay more than 20% for breakfast. Breakfast is labor intensive, cheap and the waitress is probably new staff and/or has kids to attend to. If your waitress seems upset, would it kill you to leave an awsome tip to brighten her day? If you have boatloads of money, spread the wealth around. Nobody tips better than "Old Money". Nobody tips worse than "wannabe new money". Don't bring your cheap friends who leave a dollar each. Don't waste the staff's time. Be ready to order or tell her you need a few minutes.

@@jamesepperson9734 I've only ever seen camping be an issue in bars without security. And realistically if your bar frequently has people doing half this stuff then it could do with a bouncer or two. At my place we are super nice right up until 1:55, state law dictates that to have a customer on the property at 2am on the dot can get you a fine, so by 1:58 me and the other bouncers go from nice to taking drinks and body pushing them out the door onto the sidewalk. Once had a guy complain that "you guys are open til 2, chill out" to which i smiled and replied "yeah but we are only nice about you being here til 1:55, come back tomorrow".

I know this is a super old video but I just saw it and some things are very accurate and just rude, "campers" for instance other things especially things in reading the comments are just mean bartenders not understanding some people are social awkward and could nicely be led to the good side with a bit of kindness. 💞 yes hard to imagine but some bartenders are actually terrible people too.
@BartendingPro

100% agreed. A looooot of terrible character bartenders in the world. This video is supposed to be all in good fun, so definitely some embellishment happening. The campers subject is a hard thing to explain unless you’ve dealt with it. Imagine you’re at work an hour or more past when you’re supposed to have been home because people won’t leave. I can say with some confidence that the worst offenders aren’t socially awkward or uncomfortable, they have this air of “you’re the (bartender/server/establishment) and here to serve ME. I’ll leave when I say I’m done” about them that reeks of disrespect… that’s what ppl are grumbling about. Thanks for sharing, always good to hear messages calling for more ❤️

Dude, is watering down drinks and alcohol unit reduction legal in the US? In Ontario, you can’t legally cut the amount of alcohol in drinks without telling the customer. I’m not exactly sure how they’d bust you for doing that.... but it’s the law all that same. Also, it’s stupid illegal to serve a drunk customer, too 😂
@kylebeach6799
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah unless you did it terribly it would be almost impossible to get caught watering down a drink, you can just blame it on the bartender being new or getting distracted and messing up. But you are also right, in most places if you have deemed a customer overserved then it could land you in plenty of trouble to keep feeding them drinks, even watered down. Have some balls, cut the drunk off and tell them they can come get more drinks tomorrow.

From the security side of things, I wish our bartenders kept all the above mentioned to themselves. I work at a college divebar with bartenders slightly older than the typical crowd so it's expected but I cant tell you how many people i've had to drag out ready to fight because they were mildly dickish to the bartender and some sorority girl bartender trying to pay for dues mouths off to the drunkard, knowing that it's my problem to deal with once he gets pissed off.
