Aren't you pre-coloring the sound going into the DAC by inserting the tube buffer ahead of it?

Why buy a $329 Tube "Buffer" when you can just buy a tube amp? I don't really see the point.

+Negative818 the combination of tube pre and solid state amp can very enjoyable.

+Negative818 Because this way you're not limited to just using a tube amp, you can put it in the chain before a neutral solid state amp and just use it when you want a tube sound.

+Hi-Fi Insider Mike , I just bought the Lehmann Linear and compared it to my Cayin C5 which costs 6 times less. Guess what? The lehmann is inferior to the portable Cayin C5. I would like to send the lehmann back tomorrow otherwise - What a wast of money ! The lehmann sounds ok but the Cayin sounds crystal clear !!

Don’t get a tube amp if you’ve got active speakers

Single ended connections on an 'audiophile' product. Cute.

+6doublefive3two1 a well design single ended product can out perform a poorly designed balanced product. The main benefit in balance is noise rejection.

***** "The main benefit in balance is noise rejection". true, but don't think for a second RCAs can be the length of XLRs, which brings me back to my original comment. Why are 'audiophiles' ok with -10dBV? If you can get devices that push +4dBu why would 'audiophiles' prefer anything else?

+6doublefive3two1 Nobody ever said audiophiles prefer RCA over XLR or the other way around. It depends on the setup and what kind of gear you use. Also, most interconnects in hi-fi systems are very short, nobody uses a 10-20 meter long cable to connect a DAC into an amplifier, it's usually short 30-40 cm cables.

derbigpr500 Why does mastering equipment have balanced connections?

As I thought there is no way this can be a true tube audiogear. A real tube buffer/preamp has to use a quite big PSU to get the 400V required. My guess if that it's mostly the digital stuff doing its work. Also there's no way it can be good, a good tube amp is about 1000$ if you buy from a manufacturer like WooAudio.

+nasses321 this is for someone who already has a system and wants to dip their feet into tubes before going in head first.

+hifiguy528 I'd say that head first is the only way you can get into tube amps and before the tube amps you should get a descent solid state amp. There's not really a cheap what the audio community calls tube amp. The cheapest you can go is probably the bottlehead crack or the more expensive SEX 2.1 which can drive some speakers and a variety or headphones if you get the impedance option. But those amps are kits that you have to solder yourself, but when it comes to the level that you choose tube amps, soldering shouldn't be a problem.

its not a tube amp its a buffer stage that's all, you don't need a huge power supply for those tubes and they draw hardly any power. its probably not even adding any gain or very little. Its just to add that tube flavor to the sound. really its just another device adding its own distortion to the signal. like some one said if you want tube sound get a real tube pre-amp. that said don't confuse a buffer stage with a gain stage.
