Really useful, thank you. I couldn't find the upload of you doing this actual flight - would be really handy to see.

Hey Dave! Just got the charts from Navi. Question for you.. I am trying to fly from KFLL to KAVL.. getting the SID out of KFLL no problem. But, there is no STAR for KAVL and I am left with the green dotted line. Just says "vectors" on it. So, is this the case when the airport is small? There is no way to get a solid line flight plan? I prob. am doing something wrong. I can see its a nice system, but for sure confusing too. Also, I have noticed that the "auto route" creates much longer routes vs. SimBrief etc.. this has been the case now on 5 flights. For example.. KFLL / KAVL in "auto" for NG.. was like 850nm.. SimBrief was 545nm. lol. The same has been true in many other places also. So, It makes me not want to use the auto plan function :-(

@@NOTAM1 This is great David! wow, thanks so much for taking the time for that detailed answer! That's great. So, I guess to keep things simple.. its worth looking at both maybe the auto rout with Navigraph and SimBrief to compare etc. So, it will be normal then for a green dotted line into some smaller places with no published STARS etc. I was thinking there was something wrong with the plan and would not work in real life etc. and I want to be as accurate as I can. But, it looks like that would work in real life after all. Great! David, what do you do in real life? Are you a pilot?

@@NOTAM1 Sounds good! It looks like I can just copy and paste the SimBrief route and then just fine tune it with sids, stars in Navigraph, then export to MSFS. Question, are you finding that when you import to MSFS that the data is not always matching up? Like in terms of SIDS / STARS etc? I see that happening in some cases. But, this maybe due to the fact Navigraph has not yet released the database for MSFS yet?

@@NOTAM1 Thanks David. I guess it;s just my luck I seem to struggle. lol. I know that all the "major" airports seem okay.. but, I like to fly into the smaller ones :-) Let me ask you this.. as I type I am trying to plan a flight from LMIC to LOWI. I started with SimBrief (which I guess the only point to use this, is to get accurate real world runways in use, and calculated fuel / alt?). But, anyway... started here.. dropped in the codes and saw some options. This time, I see Navigraph did a good job on the auto route. It was very close. Okay, then in Navigraph I go to select the runway and SID, then, setup the approach and arrival. Got it looking pretty good (I think). Here is the copy paste from Navigraph: LIMC/RW35R SRN5H OSKOR M985 TAGIP T876 EKPIS M726 BRENO BREN2A LOWI/RTT.L26-R Okay, then, I paste into SimBrief to process the flight.. and I get a bunch of errors. yes, I removed the start and end airport from this paste.. it does not recognize some of the arrival? Weird, Both Simbrief and Navi are now all on the same database? How could this be? lol. Man, seems like each time I setout to plan and fly I run into a road block.

Very informational tutorial , but I only have a problem is that the last plan with the dots that gives me a vector menu and not the add route for final approach , how can that be solved please .I have tried so many ways with no use :( It Does works with RNAV approach but not ILS .

Unfortunately, the currently state of the FS 2020 avionics and nav database makes GPS-reliant IFR useless. Everyone keeps saying it's been released as "a platform", not a fundamentally "complete" sim. If we must wait for 3rd party solutions, I suppose it's true, but I'll give them some time.

You show how to export to MSFS but it is unreadable. What's the point of a tutorial if you don't fully explain or we can't see what you are doing. Cheers

FSX/P3d don't even have SID's or STARS in the Flight Planner so FS 2020 a great improvement in that area.

Thank you for all your great video's. How do you run Navigraph on a second computer? Can you do a complete flight plan? How do you transfer it into MSFS2020 on the Sim computer? Thank you for your time.

Subbed. Really enjoying and appreciate your videos. I know the amount of work involved in making them and it's more than most can imagine. I often make tutorials and it's the best way to learn more about a subject in doing so (because who want's to be wrong on youtube after all, haha). I'm getting back into simming and have never had luck in making a flight plan with the STAR included. Where do you get your wind data to make that decision or best guess? I used to spend ages planning my flights with Skyvector and then loading the sim (P3d) just to see where that airport was landing it's arrivals, then back out and once again launch the sim when ready. Just curious how you go about it. For the record, I have a subscription to Navigraph and have for many years. Never used the plan feature and will be for the first time after I land from my current flight. Also, for the record, I use Pilot2ATC (was using VOXATC back in the day) so I can't load a STAR anyway or chances are it would interfere with it since it will provide the SIDS and STARS. Keep up the great work.

I really appreciate these videos. It's been a really quick educational tool for me to reference. I have one question: I understand that you must select a STAR approach for your destination and I understand how to hook it into the rest of the route on the flight plan. But what if you do not know what Runway you will be landing at? Because things change from the time you leave one airport and arrive at another. Since landing runway depends on the winds (especially if its a towered airport that instructs you which rnwy to land on).

Late respons,e but I'd suggest you to plan ahead based on weather. You can always monitor it after departure, at cruise or near descent. You can reprogram to FMS. Many company procedures may require pilots to prepare ahead in the event of a runway change whether for departure or landing. The FMS shouldn't take too long to reprogram for arrival especially when you're at cruise or near descent or even descending. Based on the ATIS, you can view active runways. So you don't necessarily have to have everything factuated and programed in the FMS prior departing. Can be done mid flight and modified at any point.

Hi guys. Maybe one of you can help me. I am either a serious noob (I am), or a complete and utter idiot (I hope not lol). I live in Waco, Tx. (KACT). I am trying to use NaviGraph to fly to Dallas (DFW). I cannot for the life of me link the two airports. Heck, one of DFW's SIDS actually goes straight through Waco. I have got to be doing something wrong. Ideas please? Thanks.

Sometimes there just isn't a SID/STAR with appropriate transitions, or no sid/star at all in which case the dashed line is fine and just represents vectors which will be given to you by ATC if flying IFR.
