Nice vlog Matt. I very much relate to the crashing after the comps. My usual job is just working from home on my laptop, so after the buzz of talking to people for four days straight, I always feel weirdly out of it the next day too. Nice to chat again in Hachioji, hopefully see you at the next Japanese comp. And take good care of yourself, listen to Stasa :)

Love getting a peak inside your world Matt. Your voice has been permanently ingrained in my head, and getting to see the behind the scenes of someone who has essentially been in the background of late nights and early mornings when im working is great. I wish you the best on your mental health journey and i hope the vlogs actually help. :)

Dude you’re one of my go to people for everything from climbing shoes to gear to opinions on climbs, etc….I hope you understand the value that you bring simply because of who you are as a person. The commentating and everything is cool too but always know that there are those of us who simply like Matt for being Matt. Here’s to your finding that middle ground. As always, great video Matt ✌🏽😃🤙🏽

Matt, thank you for sharing that last bit and please don’t think you can’t, or even shouldn’t, share that sort of thing. I’ve struggled with MH issues for years and have found that simply bottling it up is the very worst thing you can do. Yeah, you’re likely to get at least one person who will say something mean like “you shouldn’t complain because you’ve got a great job doing something you love” but that’s almost always from the people who have lives or jobs they hate but aren’t brave enough to go get what they really want. So yeah, thanks mate and take care of yourself ❤

@@mattgroom5179 its everyones place. Theres so much stigma around it and there shouldn't be. I was put on anti depressants a couple of years ago, I didn't go round sharing the why's but I never felt shy about telling people I was taking them because they really helped (not suggesting you need them of course). It was interesting because it turns out a lot of people have or know someone who has and as soon as you you talk about it, people feel comfortable to talk about their experiences. I appreciate your openness. Anyone can see that you work really hard on these trips and it absolutely make sense that you'd have a downer after. Look forward to the next one and look after yourself :)

@@mattgroom5179 It helps me and possibly a lot of others if those with a big voice talk about mental health. We need to normalize these issues to help people open up and get help if necessary. So please keep doing it if it feels right for you.

Great video with excellent behind the scenes insights. I have been through the “work until you drop to hide from other sources of stress”: it can come back to bite you, and badly. So give yourself room to breathe and be mindfully generous with yourself and others.

Love your passion for the sport and your always upbeat and positive spirit! You give a lot from yourself during those days and your compassion with the athletes is what makes you so great at your job! Hey Matt, really cool vlog! Thanks for all the work. I always enjoy your commentary and it's a very very big part of what makes comp climbing so fun to watch! Rally good to see you open up about your feelings as well. I think it's always good to talk about it in whatever way. And it's very strong to do so. MH is way too often being held inside and that's why everybody thinks they're the only persons with issues in that matter. But don't put too much pressure on yourself and try not to lose yourself in work. And don't hesitate to contact some professionals if you feel like you don't have someone to talk to. It should be normal to do so and it helps to get issues in perspective which feel massive at first. Lots of Love to you take care

thank you Matt for being so vulnerable and honest with us. dyslexia must be tough... 🥺thank you for trying so hard despite that. regarding crashing after the comps, i don't have any experience with that, but a thought i had is perhaps that setting up a comforting end-of-day routine/ritual may help, so that after comps, you could come back to that and find some peace in it. anyway, enjoying the vlog, will be happy to see more, but please take care of yourself and be kind to yourself! 🌻
