About to change the plugs on my F57 so your video came in handy. Remember folks, blow out the plug wells before you loosen the plugs! You don't want debris and dirt ending up in your cylinders.

You should always clock the spark plug to the fuel injectors. On the F56 Mini the plug should be torqued to 23Nm +/-3 to avoid melting pistons. Coil packs should be torqued to 8Nm.

I cant see any reason not to torque them to the correct settings which you listed above, everything ive ever read about clocking suggests its a myth in modern engines though. Even NGK's website says that indexing isnt worth your time. This being said, there is a torque spec for a reason and you were right to point it out.

How do you torque coil packs?

@@EvanXDev coil packs on the F56 are secured with security bolts. Torque them using an electronic torque wrench.

Amazon confirmed fit says the ones linked do not fit. FCP euro states that the correct part is SILZKGR8B8S, which is the same part number as the amazon one.

Cool Video, and cool colour (Same as Mine ;-) ) thanks for it. I need an hint from you on Torx you used, I see it quite often in the car and needing to buy it I?m wondering the one I have to buy. 8mm is the one you suggested, do I need more for my Mini? Thanks Marco

I see some people insist on using anti-seize and some who don't mention it at all. Is that something you think is worth it?
@improvedgarage
Жыл бұрын
I don't use it, this is direct from NGK's website: Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch. Thread breakage can sometimes involve removing the cylinder head for repair. Metal shell stretch changes the heat rating of the spark plug and can result in serious engine damage caused by pre-ignition. Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs. It is completely unnecessary and can be detrimental.

How can u get the plastic round white ring thats blocking entrance of the spark plug hole keeping socket form interning to take out the spark plug
@improvedgarage
Жыл бұрын
i did not have any sort of white plastic ring blocking the hole on either of my minis. Im not sure if your car has something that mine did not, or if you may just need a thinner wall socket than the one you are using. Is it blocking the socket all together from going in, or is the socket just not able to go down far enough.

would these be upgrade spark plugs ? if not what would be some recommended upgrade ones for this exact stock model
@improvedgarage
Жыл бұрын
these are the OEM spark plugs. The OEM are NJK Iridium which are some of the best plugs made. Really if you are looking for a "better" plug you would normally be ordering them in a specific heat range to match your application, but this is the best plug for a car that is stock or has simple modifications

How about anti seize on the plug threads?
@improvedgarage
9 ай бұрын
Ngk recommends against it: NGK spark plugs feature trivalent plating. This silver or chrome-colored finish on the threads is designed to provide corrosion resistance against moisture and chemicals. The coating also acts as a release agent during spark plug removal. NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without lubrication or anti-seize. Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch. Thread breakage can sometimes involve removing the cylinder head for repair. Metal shell stretch changes the heat rating of the spark plug and can result in serious engine damage caused by pre-ignition. Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs.

Any idea why I’m unscrewing the plugs but they won’t come out? I’ve tried the 12 point and others

Sorry. It’s possible one is stripped or something I suppose. There are a lot of threads, maybe you need to turn more. Maybe try grabbing them with a magnet and pulling them up.

NEVER GAP THESE PLUGS. YOU'LL RUIN THE LASER TIP
@improvedgarage
11 ай бұрын
They are brittle and you need to be careful. This is direct from NGK's site: It is always best to check the gap against the manufacturer’s specifications. If adjusting the gap on fine wire or precious metal plugs such as platinum or iridium, be very careful not to apply any pressure or prying force to the fine wire center electrode or insulator as they can be damaged. The gap should be adjusted by only moving the ground electrode.

how often do coils need to be replaced?

the general recommendation is every other time you do plugs. I do them more often because my car is tuned (plugs every 20k and coils every 40)
