During the cold war officials in the Kremlin actually believed the Space Shuttle was literally a "space bomber", designed to orbit over and drop bombs on Soviet cites. They believed this mainly becasue the shuttle had such a large payload capacity and the Soviets figured it would need to be so large only for military purposes, i.e. a bomb bay.

I had seen Discovery and Challenger blast off before and was looking forward to another launch. We were flying to space so much back then that the launches were broadcast on my elementary school's CCTV system to every room. I was so confused as a kid when Challenger exploded. I was only 10 at the time and didn't know what "death" was. I remember looking at my teacher for guidance because I didn't understand what I was seeing, but he was already looking away from the tv and crying. He tried to regain some composure and say something, but I had already turned back to the tv and was watching the debris falling so I didn't hear what he said. My meager 10 year old brain was beginning to tell me that I had just witnessed something terrible when parents began showing up to take their kids home early.

No one was on the challenger, sure it blew up six of those so called astronots are still alive and even using their real names. It's all lies, research it for yourself, and you'll find the truth out, that is if your not gullible like so many are, that are tied to this space hoax, no one goes into OUTER-SPACE .

Mission command knew the shuttle had been struck by foam on the way up. Yet they decided to take no action - not even notify the shuttle crew. It was determined by the US Navy, which performed an investigation into the matter, that the crew could have done a space walk to survey the damage and a rescue mission could have been attempted if repairs were unable to be made.

Anyone who witnessed the Moon Landing thought we would be on Mars by 2001 because of the Movie 2001. Since then it's been a huge LEO boring. Mars is 30 years overdue. Not Boeing's fault - but the taxpayer's Cold War blues. No competitor no rush. Sad but True - Hubble was great though......Webb too if it ever goes to it's million mile point.

It's the most cost-effective way to get people into space at the moment. The shuttle for all its benefits, wasn't very cost-effective or safe. NASA is nearly complete with the ORION program which will replace the shuttle program with cheaper and safer means of shuttling astronauts into space. NASA is anything but third rate. 90 percent of all space science has been conducted by this agency.
