Dr. Bernthal graduated from Princeton University and moved to South Africa to work on the emerging HIV epidemic, it was there that he developed a passion for medicine, serving the underserved and bringing people together to solve big problems.
In 2021, Dr. Bernthal was appointed interim Orthopadedic Department chair at UCLA Health. While in that position, he and his colleagues conceptualized, raised funds, built, and opened UCLA Health's Downtown Los Angeles Orthopaedic Surgery Center. This state-of-the-art facility is a combination teaching site and community hub offering patients east and south of Westwood access to world-class orthopaedic care.
Dr. Bernthal spoke to Mo Kelly about the work he's doing for the community.
