I was fortunate to witness Ihor compete and be the 1st finisher at the 2024 HURT 100 race. As he passed through the aid station I volunteered at, he always displayed great health, strength, spirit, and gratitude. Just an amazing and inspiring athlete! Congratulations on your Barkley Achievement!!!

Amazing man and great interview! "Ultras are not even healthy" is almost certainly correct: Sweden have had an excellent national health service for many decades, and they also have an annual 90 km xc race (Vasaloppet) with 10-25K participants every year. Over a 15-year period they tracked every single Swedish citizen who finished the race at least once, then followed them for an additional 10 years. It turns out that training enough to complete such an ultra reduced the death risk, from almost all causes (including cancer, so not just the obvious cardio-vascular benefits), by about 50%! Training for an ultra is the healthiest thing you can do. Actually running the race however is much worse, since on that particular day the death risk was 3X the national reference value.

LMAO that intro music sounds like a trash can falling down the stairs at a rave after you've ruptured your eardrums 😅
