Ikebana - The Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement by Mary Stewart 29th March 2023
About the talk
Japanese flower arranging or Ikebana, which means 'living plant material', dates back to the arrival of Buddhism in the Far East. China, Korea, and finally Japan, all dedicated floral arrangements to Buddha images in their temples. It was a Japanese monk in the 16th century who laid down instructions for arranging ‘plant material, mainly branches'. His school of Ikebana exists today, along with many others, enabling enthusiasts from all over the world to study and master Ikebana.
