No damage to ship. Fenders did their job. Marine version of running over a traffic cone.

I agree in part with both posters on this incident. Although the ship appeared to have excessive way on and IMO should have been approaching the harbour with greater care also the deck hand should have shouted the land lovers to keep clear in case of any debris that may have been thrown up by the collision. It was a high tide and there was a big swell running so approach is always going to be difficult !!!

Lundy jack...I can appreciate what you say and understand your explanation but it still looks like an ill judged approach that was never going to work well. Recently the Balmoral was due to sail from Portishead but was cancelled yet again and this time after getting a rope tangled in the propeller so what rope was that?? If it was a mooring rope then that is worrying as well! Sadly, I will not be sailing on this vessel as it just looks to be rather incident prone and needs a full safety revue.

HQBProductions She has always came into Ilfracombe like that but recently I have seen her coming in side diagonal bow first then tie the bow up then bring the stern in

Whilst I am not an expert on ship navigation, I do live at a yacht Marina so see boats docking very frequently. To my eyes, this boat is approaching under difficult conditions but looks to be much too fast and not under enough control. I would also be very concerned at the list to port which under choppy seas I would regard as rather unusual. I had planned to sail on the Balmoral later in the Summer but not now....the boat needs a thorough, independent inspection and the manner it approached these docks needs an explanation.

HQBProductions.. This particular vessel is an interesting one, being flat keeled, relatively lightweight and having a shallow drapht she struggles to stay level in even light chop. Safe vessel to sail though, usually they come in rather fast to keep stability and momentum but not seen them do this before.

Crazy drink drivers these days... Na... Being serious, this vessel has never sailed well in anything worse than slightly choppy with it's flat bottom / keel. It's summer Bristol channel cruises can be quite eventful!

Mm a bit fast. Wrong angle, bad chop on sea. I can sympathise with pilot
