In iliotibial band syndrome, athletes who run long, such as marathons, bike, or trail hiking, experience pain due to repetitive friction in the outer part of the knee. Pain that starts rapidly during exercise goes away when the training is stopped. There are more complaints in downhill runs. It should be distinguished from meniscus tears and intra-articular problems. In the treatment, resting and iliotibial band stretching exercises, steroid (cortisone) injection, and surgery can be considered if it does not go away.
