These two videos have been very helpful - thank you for sharing Mimi! A friend of mine asked if I would be interested to illustrate her to be self published children's book and as an inspiring illustrator I immediately said yes - so now I have to figure out the process/steps and your video is super helpful!

Beautiful! 😍 So happy for you, you deserve this. ❤ I enjoy so much watching you videos, love your calm voice and wonderful illustrations. You motivated me to start learning to illustrate. Can you give me some advice on useful tutorials for learning digital ilustrationing, especially in Photoshop? (Most of the ilustration tutorials are for Procreate...). Thank you. 🙏

Thank you so much for making this video! It's a great insight into the technicalities of illustration and you explained everything so well! And Congratulations on illustrating your first childrens book! I already know a lot of kids are going to love it! I did have a few questions if that's okay. I understand that the Harpers Childrens company gave you the dimensions, resolution, and bleed the pages had to be, but what if you aren't given those instructions? Are the sizes you used the standard for all books, or is there another way to determine that? Also, is it possible to draw pages by hand, and then transfer them to a digital program to color them? If that's the case, then how do you determine things like bleed, height, length and resolution?

So glad you found the video helpful! I always ask for the dimensions required for printing for any project, or if I were self publishing then I would find out what sizes the printers were offering and work to one of those. And yes some artists draw traditionally and then create high quality scans or photos of their work but I've not had any experience with that myself! 😊

we were taught in graphic design we were supposed to create the images in photoshop or other digital programs and then put pages together in indesign. seemed like an extra step to me at the time, guess i was right 🤪

If I were putting all of the pages together I would probably do that in InDesign, but since my publisher has their own book designer I can just hand over the illustrations and they put it all together with the text on their end 😊

LOVE seeing your process, Mimi. You are so kind to share this. I also loved your refreshing take on things being relaxed and not needing to have "perfectly drawn hands" or the characters needing to be on every page. lol

Mimi, you're amazing, the best! I have one question and I'll be very grateful, if you answer. You talk about the book designer. What do you mean by that specifically? I mean, are they doing something necessary to make all the process be finished or just the "final touches" to the file? I will probably be illustrating my first book and I'm afraid that what I do will be not enough for them - the file would be not "fully prepared".
