Today's chemical suppliers primarily use oil and gas as feedstocks for their chemicals productions. Switching to biogenic sources to produce bio-based chemicals represents a promising way to minimize the environmental impact of chemicals production and reduce the CO2 footprint.
ILS-Integrated Lab Solutions has many years of experience in helping catalyst-suppliers and chemicals makers improve their biochemicals R&D productivity.

The difficult nature of reacting more stabile biomass sources often requires high reaction temperatures, pressures and sometimes even corrosive environments. ILS has designed this high-temperature, high-pressure continuously stirred tank reactor CSTR to assist a key client in doing exactly this type of reaction.
ILS was able to base much of the in-house design work for this unit on its tried and tested Fischer-Tropsch CSTR technology, which is capable of working with even high slurries contents without blockage for long times on stream.
The unit is fully automated. Viscous feedstock is continuously co-fed to the reactor under pressure with gas-phase reagents which are first boosted from lower bottle pressures to high reaction pressures using an integrated HASKEL gas compressor.
Offgas products are collected in gas-bottles for offline analysis and the gas product volumetric flowrate is measured directly using a Ritter volumetric gas flowmeter.
Liquid product is continuously collected in a weighed slop-vessel and liquid samples can be automatically collected during the course of reaction in removable glass liquid sample bottles. The combination of gas and liquid flow/weight measurement insures that tight mass-balances can be realized.
The unit is fully automated using a Siemens S7-PCS operating on WinCC. Addition of the ILS Workflow Manager-WM tool allows the user to easily generate complex, multistep recipes and execute them with a click of a mouse.
