You should try spraying a matte clear coat on the back of the LCD panel. Maybe it'll very slightly blur the innards of the computer and make it a little easier to read. Cool concept though.

I have an even easier solution: I tried it with the original backlight diffusor-sheets and it's resulting in quite a good image. But I really like the style and the depth of the monitor so I'm keeping it until it's boring. xD But thx for the feedback!

Cool stuff, it's a first time I see a modification like that. It looks like it could perhaps use some additional white transparent layer of background, (like maybe something baking paper-ish? tissue paper if it won't burn?) to add a bit more contrast, I wounder how much more it can be improved towards contrast-cool factor compromise

You can buy an inline temp sensor that has goes between the HDD and the main board. Works great. Or buy a software called HDDfanControl for about the same price. Either works great!

@EightQuarterBit

ʙᴇᴀɴ just as a tip for the future, you can also just short the drive temp sensor cable with a bit of wire in the end of the cable’s connector, closing the circuit. That registers as “cold” and prevents fan spin-up. Most studies show that temperature has little impact on the lifespan of spinning platter drives anyway. I’ve used an individual wire from CAT5 (solid, not stranded) as my “jumper” in the past. Works perfectly. I’d recommend disconnecting that connector from the non-Apple drive, as those pins are not standardized as a temperature sensor. They are sometimes used for drive config with jumpers between the pins used to set drive parameters. May wind up doing something unexpected if they are left connected to the main board. Apple repurposed those pins in their custom-spec drive (never understood why, when temp is reported via SMART anyway...)
@BeanJ

@BeanJ
3 жыл бұрын
If you want to use it on a daily basis I would suggest to use led lights same like in this video but I wouldn't paint the insides and just use the original diffusor film. So I would use the strips as a cheap fix for the faulty backlight (I did that on my next video - maybe you should watch that ;) ). But be careful - the opened power supply is nothing funny and you shouldn't do anything you're not completely sure about just because you saw it in a random youtube video. Good luck!
