At first I had virtually zero interest in Ms. Marvel. I mean, it's not like I'm the target audience for this character. But Iman is just such a star that I fell in love with the show. She's just got that special quality that makes a movie star....like Tom Cruise. I wouldn't say either of them are amazing actors like Daniel Day Lewis or Meryl Streep. But the camera LOVES them and it's just so fun to watch them perform. And Inclusion DOES matter. I was watching a reaction to this series that had a 10-ish year old Pakistani girl and seeing her joy, love & excitement for Kamala Kahn was just sooooooooo fucking wholesome & heartwarming that I teared up several times. It reminded me of me after I had watched Christopher Reeves' Superman and going home & tying a towel around my neck. And to anyone gatekeeping that childhood experience can go get fucked!!! Why can't a little Pakistani girl dream & play as Kamala Kahn? There's room for EVERYONE under the Nerd Umbrella. And it's okay to not be into some nerd properties....there are many who find Lord of the Rings to be dull or stupid, and that's fine. But once you start telling others that they are stupid for liking something....that makes you an asshole.

Curious though, I loved Blade and wanted to be Blade when I was a kid. I was a chubby white kid. How could I have possibly seen myself in Blade, when I was a kid? This whole “I love myself so much that I also want to see myself and my story on the screen” mentality is very new. Back in the day, most kids didn’t care who was acting in what, as long as it was entertaining. We lived with ourselves all day, we didn’t want to see that on screen, we wanted something new and different. It’s the exact opposite now, if you don’t see yourself on screen, it’s not inclusive enough. It’s an insanely interesting perspective to come from and I’m fascinated by it, so is my wife. They discuss it in her psychology college courses all the time. 🤙

Dude, it's only 6 episodes and it's REALLY good. I feel like Seth failed to bring up one of the most surprising & interesting stories of the series. They get into the sad history of what went down in India after Great Britain left. The Partitian. Where families became separated, violence broke out, etc etc. And it's rooted in family....something we all can relate to. And as someone who had virtually ZERO interest in the show (I'm like the complete opposite target audience for this series) I have to say this has been my favorite Marvel series. Hell, it's probably tied with No Way Home as favorite Marvel thing since Endgame. The style of the show, the history they bring, the story itself, the characters....it's just soooooo good. So I really do hope you give it a chance someday. I'm sure you can find like 5 hours somewhere to watch the series.

I love the bit about "I'm this, this, and this, who also just happens to be Muslim and Pakistani". That's reflects how frustrated I've always felt about LGBT representation in film. It's so rare to encounter gay characters who are more than just their sexuality. I get it - there is a need to tell coming out stories and dealing with HIV/AIDS, etc., etc., etc. But does EVERY LGBT film have to tackle these issues? Or can't we just have a film about whatever, and the characters just happen to be gay? And I have - over the years - found a small handful of decent films with incidental gay characters, but it's like searching for needles in haystacks. Nice to see the MCU did right by this character.

@@DrTssha Being a fan doesn't make you a perfect fit for a role. Matt Smith was not a fan of Doctor Who and is considered the 3rd best actor to play the Doctor. And again, Robert Downey wasn't a fan of Iron Man/Tony Stark, but is widely considered one of the best portrayals (live action, cartoon, comics, everything) of the character. This interview was so short! It's always so refreshing to see and hear Iman and her anecdotes. Her casting as Ms. Marvel is the same as Hugh Jackman's for Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool, RDJ for Iron Man, and Chris Evans for Captain America. It was just perfectly meant to be!

She's so, so great. And I like that the interview touched on she's a Pakinstani Muslim, but that never felt like the core of the character -- it's obviously a big part of who she is, but it was never the defining feature, it's just kind of who she is, and that's deserving of respect, but not the determining factor.
