You can make very tight turns on the DCT, on the road, in traffic without dropping the bike. Haven’t practiced anything on my DCT, like I did with the HD FatBob and my Tiger 900 Gt Pro. This Honda Goldwing DCT is a machine is very easy to operate where, with the above mentioned bikes. Doesn’t mean you can’t drop it but I found it, it is very forgiving. Don’t forget to put the side stand up and emergency brake on, turn the handlebar to the left.

Have the chrome part remade from stainless steel that way all you have to do when it does get scratched is to sand it and re-polish it and stainless is stronger them steel.

Thanks for posting this. I too spend time going around cones in parking lots. I,like you, would feel more comfortable with improved tip over protection. Max is getting closer but probably still 6 months away. With the dct I find I have to use higher speeds and just the right throttle to make it work. Rear brake of course as well. Cheers

You are awesome Bob. The thing of it is. We really don’t need to ride like this. Slow speed stuff can easily be done with Honda’s “Walking Mode” right? Most never take it this far and they’ve have been riding for many years without incident. They just can’t do beautiful feet up small radius U turns. We get influenced by influencers to learn the slow speed skills. It’s all good and the better you the more slow speed control, you have. But out on the highway and around town it’s big picture, visibility, caution and covering controls through intersections, speed management, and staying out blind spots. Ride safe and ride often. Nice job.

Your right! I think those of us who practice this are a little competitive. I hate the fact that the bike can do a lot more than I feel comfortable doing with it. Not needed but a lot of fun and a sense of accomplishment once I've over come a fear. I never have to do 18' turns on the roads, but on the other hand I never ride around the block or take the long way around something to keep from doing what some might be fearful of . Motor officers have told me they never do half of what they practice but it makes them feel AT ONE with the bike.

Re: your tipover switch not engaging - I wonder if your crash bar extensions aren't allowing the bike to lean over far enough to trip the sensor? Honda had problems with the 1500 bank angle sensor way back when, but that was with unexpected cutoffs. They seemed to have squared that away on the later 1500s and 01-17 1800s. Wonder if they're using a different design now?

After really thinking about this and dropping it one more time since this happened. I'm pretty sure as I was falling I gave it the gas which gave it momentum. I've dropped it since then and it clearly worked. Even the first time it did turn off so it the extensions bars were the issue it wouldn't have.

Have you broken your leg yet? I love the idea but I think the forward bar should be longer and bent up to the muffler. If you ever put your foot down ( which you never should but we all have) while the bike is moving i can see your leg getting caught in there! Hope it never happens to you.

These are custom made. Take a look at this KZitem video and towards the end it gives all the measurements. My guy is not longer available. You need a guy who is an excellent Mig welder and make sure he places it in a jig when welding the fronts because the metal will twist slightly making it difficult to line up the mounting holes again. The Chrome additions to the front are from earlier model GW's. kzitem.info/news/bejne/kWeVmnt4qoOpf5g

1st drop was trying to see how tight of a circle it would do from full lock and I was duck walking it at like 2 mph, and it tipped over. The OEM's worked fine. The 2nd drop was trying to do a u turn in two parking spaces and I was in the middle of the turn and dropped it. This time it went all the way over and did approx $800 worth of damage. That's what started me on the journey to find a better system since I like doing the cone courses and knew I would drop it again. Since the mod I have dropped it twice and both times it worked perfectly.

a lot more info on how to build them is on the Goldwing forum www.gl1800riders.com/threads/new-and-better-tip-over-protection-ideas.462735/ IMPORTANT Be sure your welder places the OEM bars in a jig before he starts welding otherwise the heat will twist the thin metal pipe and the mounting holes might not line up again.

Some times they work and some times they don't even off the kick stand from what i've heard. For me they worked 50% of the time but the last time they didn't work it cost me almost $1000 in damage. So it was stop doing the cone courses or design something better. One Texas police department was using the 2018's and some of the officers went back to Harleys because of the damage to the 2018's when they dropped them. These officers were responsible for buying and repairing their bikes.
