If you do a little historical research, you’d be disgusted at how much land over there was supposed to be used for veteran housing and treatment, and the land was either sold, or otherwise not made available for veteran use. Hint: There’s a reason why Veteran Ave. was named that.

Im sleeping in a 4 door sedan in Torrance target parking lot. 2 tours 2 branches of service. 100%disabled. All I needed was resources to move out of California. This same VA has a HUD Vash that is piss poorly ran. April will make my 3rd year in my car.

Exactly. Like, are they saying they have funding ready, or is that a totally whole new conversation? If there is no funding, this lease agreement is helping the VA generate revenues on what otherwise would have been an empty lot. This move seems counterintuitive to the goals of the organization.

So as I understand it the veterans are suing the VA because instead of helping veterans the VA was instead leasing out the land they get from previous agreements out to various programs, in order to fund what little they can do for veterans now, so it’s not gonna end well for anyone when those services can’t be paid for at all

Also consider this might be the most valuable land available in all of Los Angeles. If it was sold that money could be used to build enough housing for the entire homeless population in Los Angeles. Of course that housing would be in Lancaster, but it still takes the homeless off the streets.

I don’t think you understand that the VA was leasing these parcels of land out to various programs to pay for services for veterans that they currently provide, so without the income for these leases i can all but guarantee these veterans housing will not come to fruition and likely they will not receive the few services they receive now.. the problem is with the VA not UCLA

how can someone who fought in a war in 1975 blame the public for not having housing in 2024? Why do most veterans come back and get regular jobs and careers and raise families but these vets cannot? They are given access to home loans, free education, free healthcare yet someone who fought in a war at 21 wants the tax payer to give them housing at age 60?

Unless you have been to war than maybe you should not say anything. I can not imagine what our veterans went through. Many come back home so lost and broken not the same person and struggle. My grandfather went to Vietnam and could not murder the women and children as asked to he did however kill others. He came back and committed suicide hung himslef. My great grandfather went to WWII was in all four battles and came back an alcoholic. He worked as a carpenter and was a superintendent, and was told plenty of times if it was not for the drinking he would have been a millionaire he was very smart. I think before you judge others try thinking what they have went through and that might explain why they are in the position they are in today.

It’s a matter of the original gift, to be used for veterans. The VA violated the purpose of the gift by leasing the land to private parties. Under full disclosure I do admit that I took advantage of one “free stuff” from the VA, the Vietnam GI Bill which allowed me to become a productive taxpayer.

Like most ‘not for profit’ they sold or leased everything for $$$. Look up Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica before the ‘Nuns’ sold it to Providence. It was for profit. There is absolutely no such thing as ‘not for profit’ or being in service to anyone but themselves.

But, the negative aspect is immediately apparent and unreasonably burdensome on another group of people. Trading notoriety for harming a group of citizens seems like a bad decision. Sports programs and giant medical centers are huge money makers for the university, and neither are necessary to achieve the university's mission.
