Male impala antelope (Aepyceros melampus) fighting and chasing each other. Young males live in bachelor groups, where they practice their sparring techniques and gain strength until they are able to challenge a territorial male and take over his territory. Once a male has a territory, he spends all of his time herding his females and keeping and eye out for challengers. Territorial males rapidly lose body condition since they don't spend enough time feeding. Once a territorial male loses to a challenger, he returns to the bachelor group to try and build his strength up once more.
