In the sometimes the Romans made decisions based on astronomy or omens. That's probably why there is that astronomy tech.

really? Yea I played the augustus campaign a little earlier (not to big into those) and it seemed alright but the factions kinda seemed like they were all very similar. The best part was being able to have those late period units from the beginning. I'm testing out a grand campaign now (my cup of tea) and the game looks amazing. Visually. Some of th skins im not too crazy about like the seleucids. But overall this is the one patch to rule them all. Rome 2 was truly ment to be released september 2014 rather than september 2013.

civil wars will be a VERY big nuisance once you start getting them the first one i got in imperator i was octavian and i had dealt with lepidius and pompeii and was building up forces to march on anthony when it struck i lost 1 whole province and many parts to like 5 others including a part of italia! I lost three armies (two experienced veteran armies and one fairly new) and my best navel fleet. All in all some new generals were put in new armies were swiftly built and it took me around 15-20 turns to put down the rebellion......................... good times

In content this was a huge step forward. But in bugs it set it 3 steps back again. If AI is landing it's ships, for me it is 2/3 of the time, it will glitch out. I even had 1/3 of the enemy fleet stuck under ground while getting ashore. And while I had to fast forward, they managed to get a single soldier off who ran and attacked my idling units. I lost about 20 men in one cav unit before I realized a single tw*t came ashore and started hacking them. And when I move units across town, I started calling that scent marking. Since the units act like dogs and hog every building corner they can find, like they are trying to scent mark it. :)

Does anyone know whether those battering rams which knocked the wall down were used in real life? They look a bit unrealistic to me.
@RepublicOfPlay
10 жыл бұрын
Yeah they were, they were actually used widely, however, in Rome II, it takes a wall down super quick, it takes an entire section down and it's much more mobile and doesn't have any realistic force propelling the ram itself. In real life, there was pulleys used to raise the ram and drop it to the wall, and it would take out sections of the wall with engineers / excavators and others needing to come in to clear the rubble and make it passable.

Astronomy was used in order to "foretold" what will happen. Controlling the people who do the astronomy was pretty much same as controlling priests of religions. Superstition had power during those time and ages. You could easily subdue superstitious political rival. Just imagine a person who practice astronomy to tell to your rivals that "According to the starts you will have bad luck this month, it's good idea not to take any big moves". Superstitious person wouldn't be doing any big move because of that.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but I have to say stuff about the civil war part. I had my Imperium at lvl 4, and I had 4 other dynasty army and 7 of my own with Octavian, yet my civil war boke out with no visible chance or warning, and that 4 other and 3 of my own dynasty member defected, my empire became nothing as random regions joined the rebellion, and I only had 70-80% influence. I had a tough job putting it down, and 3 turns later, another civil war broke out, so I stopped playing the capmain, as it makes NO frikkin sense to have civil war breaking out after you put down one, and it makes NO effect whatsoever after you put it down, it acts like just another nonsense enemy faction, which isnt true... In the old system when you destroyed a civil war, you had option to choose to what will you become, now in this octavian campaign I fought 4 civil wars, won 4, and nothing. No reward, only the fact that it'll break out again in a few turns...

Hi Darren,i recently found your channel and you looked objective and in-depth(I first saw and really liked the historic battles you did just because you say how the battle happened before you play).Anyway I am a huge total war fan and own every total war except rome 2,althgough I was insanely pumped up for it since I am Greek and it is one of the most interesting periods for Greece and also I loved Rome 1,i didn't preoder because it is against my policy but one of my friends did so I got to play it extensively when he went for holidays I played it at about 70 hours and hated its guts (I played it around the era of patch 4-5)I didn't hate it for its bugs and lag although they where terrible (later I found a video I loved the"why rome 2 failed" which states every reason I hated it (it is a great video I think you probably have already seen it and its follow up,and if you haven't please do)Anyway disappointed from this I went back into the classics (Rome 1 and medieval 2)and found some mods to play like rome total realism,Europa barbarorum 1 and 2,stainless steel,and I loved them so much I cannot express I dumped literally hundernt of hours on those and now I cannot even play shogun 2 which I originaly liked it (and napoleon empire and rome 2)lack so good mechanics of the previews total wars.Like the perfect recruitment system of medieval 2 the area of recruitment system of all those mods the unit collision and fighting in more than just 1vs1 which was so annoying for me(for example I had a small elite unit of the enemy total surrounded and my idiot solders were dueling with them for hours instead of all rushing in and overwhelming them)and the awesome soundtrack. Anyway considering all those and what greatness this series had does rome 2 even though it is a lot improved worth a purchase I don't know since my friend is gone and I cant play any more but is it really improved enough to stand upt to its predecessors to anything but graphics?Please tell me your opinion so you can help me to decide. Anyway thanks for your time!
@RepublicOfPlay
10 жыл бұрын
I honestly think it does, however if you don't like shogun 2, then maybe it just has done in a direction that you don't like anymore. I like the province system, the recruitment system and the battles. If you're looking for Rome I or Medieval 2 style of gameplay, then it's just not here. I recommend watching a let's play (of Rome 2 Emperor Edition) for about 10 turns and then you will be able to decide for yourself if its something you want to buy.

That's because Antony because a (I can spell it wrong so sorry) helenophile due to his ❤ with Cleopatra. Also the presence of Latin Culture still has benefits but don't build shrines off Jupiter. Build shrines off Vulcan and Neptune of I remember right they have some benefits for industry and maritime (industry?) And it only gives a little bit Latin culture and still gives public order. Also Parthia is not a real threat early game. Yes they will attack you but if you build your army recruiting building right you can defeat them with a Garrison. Then Armenia takes over like 4 off there city's and then later if you play it smart and you just take Pompey territory the other Roman's will like you. So always choose to fight against Pompey. And keep 2 armies to defend borders. So help Armenia. (And install a modd that client states like you and hate you 25% more depends what you do makes it more realistic) I can say this game is very very very good now and Istria FLC is better than HATG IMO and yes I own CIG, HATG and Empire Divided. So no wrath off Sparta or Rise off the republic as those time periods don't interest me. So in a short sentence. You like Roman history and gaming? Get the Game damnit!
