The Imperial March without being altered is quite simply designed to be a march...they're slow and meant to keep troops in line and in rhythm with each other, easy to follow. Not to be pedantic, but both versions are simultaneously too fast and too slow for a march. Modern military marches tend to be ~120 BPM, whereas the Romans used 60 BPM - which we carry on with for funerals. This clocks in at 108 BPM, where the original is 103.

I like this version, especially the added variations. I think, though, the original slower tempo conjures the huge, heavy, inexorable power of the Empire. I envision the AT-ATs trudging ahead and the Star Destroyers forming up. They may be slow-moving, but you better not wait until they get here. Mood is a bit darker and scarier. In yours they sound like they could be the good guys, like what the Storm Troopers would listen to at a mission rally. Kind of in line with the modern stories of Vader as anti hero. @@Jr-tr3bq Then I'm not sure where you're going with your statement, because I admitted it was doable for a short time ("This is a quickstep that can't be maintained for more than a brief period."), but it's not a proper march cadence that can be maintained for hours. Saying 'Oh yes! It's not impossible for 7-8 minutes!' is supporting the wrong half of the argument. Can you march to it for a few minutes? Sure. You also can run for an hour or more if you've trained hard for it. That doesn't mean that running to 198bpm would make 198bpm a 'perfect march speed.'

I won't be able to listen to Imperial March the same way again. Though it is indeed sped up to as near of a perfection as possible.

The speed it was at was already perfect... it's a march, so it's meant to be played at a tempo within the andante range (73-77bpm), as this is the speed that one walks, or in this case, marches.
