I dont know everything but have a good handle on application.
one correction is have egt guage shut down cell and all ecectronics when egt goes into red zone. shutting cell off alone will make lean condition worse.
also cells running too hot will cause to much steam and also cause engine melt down. some steam is beneficial too much is detrimental.
the super hydro 2 I worked on was a combo of overlean and way too much steam. they had too much ampeage and cell would go over 170 deg in 1 hour.
My thought on steam: steam isnt doing it itself. Its a combination of lean condition and excess oxygen. when you lean the afr it looses the protection boundry of the fuel. which transfers heat to piston faster. also when you compress fuel and water mist it can become somewhat abrasive. I cant say it is steam alone but have seen too much water or steam injection deteriorates top of piston and spark plug ground stap.
If any one has any more knowledge on too much steam please add to comments.
I have seen in industrial setteing the use of super heated steam as a super effective material stripping device.
Again my statements on too much steam is what I have experienced and witnessed in my field. I have sucessfully used water-methanol injection on super-turbocharged and high compression engines with great results. Friends and customers have done it also but didnt do it in moderation and that is when I found rapid piston damage occur.
