When I was in undergrad for accounting, my goal was to get into the big 4. I was eliminated in second round of interview at KPMG, I didn't even make it to interview in the other 3. Two years later, my friends who joined the big 4 as auditors, they cannot wait to get out. As soon as they complete work hour requirement and receive CPA designation, they are leaving. I joined a small firm and I have to do everything. I get to work on a lot more interesting projects and advanced work than my classmates who joined the big 4. I've since received 2 promotions and make more than my classmates and have a life outside of work. I don't doubt that my classmates will go on to do great things and the big 4 experience is a great resume booster. To sum up, there are so many career paths. Don't limit yourself.

Heinrich, I have been following your channel for about 1.5 years. I graduated from a mid-level university with not-so-good grades. However, thanks to the advice from your channel as well as a lot of belief in myself, I now work as a Big 4 consultant! Thank you so much for your help and digital mentorship.

isn't big 4 consulting long hours with shitty pay?

@@maonyksmohc9574 Yes, in the first 3 or 4 years, it depends where you are a consultant. But after that you have a high increase in salary. Sure, if you somehow do not identify with your job it is a shitty deal.

Another insightful video, you hit something pivotal. While preparing for MBB, we should be flexible and keep our mind open to numerous opportunities. If we are indeed prepping for MBB, chances are high that we’ll be quality candidates for those numerous other opportunities. There are many ways to skin a cat. Great video Heinrich!

I don't easily tend to go out of my way and write a comment, but this video really deserves more praise than just a thumbs up. I truly believe that your message offers a very healthy perspective for young professionals or students like me since such a narrow career goal is way too restrictive for most students to reach their full potential as MBB probably won't ideally suit everyone's interests and strengths. As you mention, I believe there are many other interesting and rewarding opportunities out there (although I still wouldn't close the door on MBB myself) that can be just as or even more fulfilling to many. Cheers Heinrich, great video!

As a young (and naive) man in my early 20s, structuring my undergrad just to ‘hope’ to get in, and seeing my peers do so as well (some managed to get in) - I think the honesty and calling out on this type of mindset is genuinely valuable. Thank you for your honesty, wish I heard this earlier.

I don't have an MBA but I have been a consultant for several years in areas where subject matter expertise is an absolute necessity in order to succeed. The interesting thing is that I have always been working for myself so people can be consultants, even at a high level for multi-nationals without fantastic papers. If you're good at your job, you will be recommended by your previous clients to your next client. I watch your videos for inspiration and see how others are doing things and to pick up new ideas that I can use as they are or modify for my purposes. Thank you for the great material you publish on your channel!

Great video Heinrich! I very much liked the “real talk” videos. I’d advise they become a chapter of videos that differentiate from the rest of the content. Next topic could as well be a “real talk” on contrasting career options (eg consulting vs industry/ startup) in different areas (eg culture, personal impact, fulfilment…). Or a “real talk” on what a young professional (ie your audience) should and should not expect from a job. Keep up the good work!

Heinrich makes some great points. Living with this single-minded attitude is not a way to become the sort of well-rounded candidate that elite firms look for. Yes you must tailor your work and study to a degree, but these companies do not simply hire. Also take opportunities to get real life experience and skills that provide intangible benefits to you, it will help you stand out from all the other students that are also from target universities and have high GPAs. So many other pathways to careers as well!

I thought during the actual interview "I don't want to be like her :D"

Hi Heinrich, thanks for all these amazing informative videos, highly appreciate your work. I have been working as software consultant in one of the top technology consulting firms in Germany, and thinking of improving my business skills. Question is, do I have to go for MBA degree or I can get similar or at least 60-70% of business knowledge from books/online articles while working? Not sure which path to choose. What I"m looking for is to have business knowledge along with technical skills which I already have. Highly appreciate your guidance on this.
