Fantastic! For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to keep the nut close to the bolt from above. I found a plastic straw, cut a section off, and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

Great idea but I didn’t have the tubing to give this a try. I instead improvised with two plastic tie wraps. One for each terminal. I bent the sharp end about one half inch to create a spring like V fold and place the nut above that held with the V fold tension. Once I got terminal screw started, I was able to pull the tie wrap out. Worked first try on both terminals! Thanks for taking the time to post and the great idea!

I use foam ear plugs under the nuts. Squeeze the ear plug, set it in the bottom of the slot with the nut. The ear plug will expand and hold the nut. The foam will not interfere if your bolt is a little long.

Good idea! I have been using a little piece of inner tube to lift those nuts and it works great!

Bro, you are a LIFE SAVER. I was going CRAZY trying to get my negative terminal connected. I'm also trying to attach a cable for a tender, sure wasn't making it any easier. So glad I found your video. Thanks a ton!

Thanks for idea. Didn't have tubing, so I used a piece of tin foil to wrap around the nut and I extended the foil so I could hold on the nut while screwing in the bolt. Worked great!

You can use dielectric grease to create a "sticky " effect too. You should use, it anyway around the whole connection. Is too bad we have to go through this. You'd think the manufacturers would have fixed this by now

I saved the little nuts from the old battery and just stacked 2 of them in that little slot. Raises the top nut enough to get battery cable and battery tender cable screwed down. Think this is okay?

I wedge a flat screwdriver inside the battery terminal then I place the nut on top of the screwdriver. Once the bolt catches de threads of the nut I remove the screwdriver. Problem resolved

It will be crushed by the bolts and can not be removed. plus most batteries are so tucked in that they can not be accessed from the sides, so you can't reach the tubes anyway.

just saying: I have a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, changed battery this morning and bolts fit fine. No tube trick needed. But the battery area is TIGHT! Glad my hands are small. lol

I'd cut those tubes a little longer so that they are easy to pull out.

jsprite123 once the tubes compress under the screw, you won't get them out. Just leave them in there and it doesn't hurt anything

If I want to install an extra battery in parallel, what size cable should I use? I was going to use 10 gauge wire.

I would use the same size as what your motorcycle has to connect them... The battery still has the same power potential.

If you work on a lot of motorcycles, you would know that most bikes do not have access to the side of the bike battery, so a screwdriver won't work. Thanks for swearing as well, it shows a level of intelligence. You invalidate your own comment.
