I really like these high-end designs in the liner-lock versions, with the work put in on both sides of the knife. The frame-lock versions look like they did half the work, or they were made to be shown in a glass case with the one side showing. Beautiful work on top of super-clean and precise work, and the first example that makes me see why collectors like these knives.

Lol, and here I was thinking I was such a big deal for getting my first Reate. :) But seriously, this is a great review of a true work of art. What a stunner! One of the things I find so interesting about high end custom pieces like this is the paradox of designing a building a tool you know will most likely never be used, regardless of how strong and sharp and capable it is. It's more knife shaped fine art than knife, and it's purchased for no other reason than to simply admire, like any other piece of fine art. Great commentary MC, really enjoyed this one a lot.

I feel that way almost everytime I watch one of these videos from MC of the higher end knifes that are out there. think of what I own and look at some of these and think, damn my knifes aren't sh*t compared to these. if I could actually afford to buy one of these though then you better believe my ass would be using it for something. not saying I would be ripping through cardboard everyday like most of my knifes do but I'd certainly use this for lighter task such as opening packages and whatnot and it would certainly be in my pocket for dinner outtings. Lmao. wouldn't care who I pissed off by using it either. in the end it's still a tool so imo it should be used for the intentions it was built for.

I completely understand utility vs. Cost and practicality. That being said it really depends on an individual's pay scale... These are pieces of art. I have a few $2000 guitars that I beat the shit out of... If I had say...a fender custom shop masterbuild I would still beat the shit out of it , but that being said I don't have $6000 for a cruze masterbuilt strat. It took me a couple years to save for what I have... Mass overtime and blood , sweat and almost zero sleep. It's only what you can afford at any given time. I'm not rich. Do I want a rockstead...yes Do I want an ad 20...yes Would I use it in edc terms? Of course. I just can't afford high end knives.

@@donniedoobie9627 It's ok! I have a few somewhat expensive knives, none of them even close to what we see here. 15 years ago I couldn't even imagine owning a knife at 400+ price point, now I have a 1200 knife and use it for the heck of it (not abuse it though!). It's astonishes me that these are also made completely by hand to my knowledge. if that's the case how can you create something that's not only gorgeous but also has such tight tolerances with I'm assuming hand tools like micrometers, files, sanding sticks and whatnot rather than using a C&C machine, laser cutters, 3d milling machine and what have you? if these are 100% made by hand then I can't even imagine how long it would take to make one.

The bottom line is it does look like what the average person would see as a gas station knife. I'm sure they're INCREDIBLE knives, but if I'm spending a ton of money on a custom knife, I wouldn't want the average person to think I paid like $5 for it. That's the problem with really expensive, custom stuff. It's not just an issue in the knife world. A lot of really expensive custom items either look cheap or fake because we're so used to things that look like it, being so.

@@josiahpage440 You've never seen cheap knives with "damascas" blades and swirly metallic handles? I'm not saying they look cheap to ME. @@josiahpage440 You're also not the average person in regards to knives since you're viewing a knife channel. You and I can see this and know it's all real, and high end and it's on a review channel. Think of extravagant jewelry an actress wears - you put that same piece of jewelry on an average person, and it's going to look like costume jewelry to the average person because that's what the people expect when they see something that looks like that. And the only reason I even mentioned the gas station knife thing is because he did in the start of the video. I'm explaining how people could see the knife that way.

Hey M.C. That is one beautiful pair of knives, way out of my league for right now. I did hear you mention the triad lock.on the cold steel knives. Stop mentioning them they suck, or at least mine does. I have a recon 1 and the triad lock sticks on closing, leaving the blade loose to where it opens as much as a half an inch in my pocket. Cut the hell out of my pants and nearly stabbed myself. Triad lock may not ever close on your fingers but what good is it if you are risking cutting your pants and or your skin if you put it in your pocket.
