Thanks, also, to you, Anna. It is delightful to have these paintings as accompaniment to the music, even though many are details or vignettes - & very interesting to see/hear how the specific works of the composers & painters are paired together. How wonderful it would have been to have one's old art history lectures discuss paintings with intelligently chosen music - let the professors (are you one?) say less! Deconstruct sonata form with parallel imagery! I forgot how much I loved certain works, of both art forms (the Valses Nobles et Sentimentales, almost anything by Sisley or Pissarro). Interesting that some comments seem to miss the added joy of these combinations. Pity - we could have more presentations like this, one hopes.

When the world crumbles, when the structures of a civilization falter, it is good to return to that which in history does not flex, but on the contrary recovers courage, gathers the separated, pacifies without bruising. I remember in primary school when I was 8 years old my teacher had shown me the first picture in this video. I thought, "what is so great about this, any other artist can draw pictures way better than that", my teacher had heard me. She said, "that picture is painted completely out of dots, it is brilliant. And just like that picture, I think that is exactly how I feel about this type of music. It sounds just like any other classical piece, but if you really listen, they are brilliant in their own way

It never amuses me that the older generation assumes the younger one doesn't have culture. We know Debussy, we know some art, we read. What does amuse me is how this idea of today's youth being bad has been running for at least 2000 years now. I kid you not, some guy in 500 wrote "Today's society has become lascivious and weak" (paraphrasing)

Oh tell me the truth about love W. H. Auden Some say love's a little boy, And some say it's a bird, Some say it makes the world go around, Some say that's absurd, And when I asked the man next-door, Who looked as if he knew, His wife got very cross indeed, And said it wouldn't do. Does it look like a pair of pyjamas, Or the ham in a temperance hotel? Does its odour remind one of llamas, Or has it a comforting smell? Is it prickly to touch as a hedge is, Or soft as eiderdown fluff? Is it sharp or quite smooth at the edges? O tell me the truth about love. Our history books refer to it In cryptic little notes, It's quite a common topic on The Transatlantic boats; I've found the subject mentioned in Accounts of suicides, And even seen it scribbled on The backs of railway guides. Does it howl like a hungry Alsatian, Or boom like a military band? Could one give a first-rate imitation On a saw or a Steinway Grand? Is its singing at parties a riot? Does it only like Classical stuff? Will it stop when one wants to be quiet? O tell me the truth about love. I looked inside the summer-house; It wasn't over there; I tried the Thames at Maidenhead, And Brighton's bracing air. I don't know what the blackbird sang, Or what the tulip said; But it wasn't in the chicken-run, Or underneath the bed. Can it pull extraordinary faces? Is it usually sick on a swing? Does it spend all its time at the races, or fiddling with pieces of string? Has it views of its own about money? Does it think Patriotism enough? Are its stories ****** but funny? O tell me the truth about love.
