' To hear the sound of your ancestors played by hands slightly slender - a touch more tender with light but powerful finger sends chills down my spine - salty tiers from the Karelia of old permeate through the rivers and lakes washing away sorrows and pain from my weary heart and soul - once I thought the likes of Knopfler and Oldfield reigned supreme in their castles of loneliness - now I know better. This makes me wanna cry like a baby inna loving mother's arms and say thank you from the bottom of my heart.' Ilosta ja haikeudesta itkeminen puhdistaa mielen ja sielun.

Приятный тембр у кантеле, мягкий и глубокий, без неприятного дребезжания. Кто только поставил 4 дизлайка? Что тут может не понравиться?

Thank you very much. Here in England I made a 15 String Kantele but it's not very good. I'm not a musician so I can't really play it anyway. But for me, the Kantele is the sweetest and most evocative musical instrument in the world. Thank you Arja and Thank you Finland.

Absolutely splendid! Thanks for sharing your beautiful music. Have you got any tips, regarding acquiring a kantele, for myself? Any particular maker, website, things to look for etc.? I'm from Denmark, but used to live in Finland, so I still go there, every once in a while (If that helps me, at all) :-) Have you tried something like a german zither or lap harp? If so, how does it compare to a kantele, in your opinion.? Best wishes and many thanks for even reading my questions! :-) PS: To anyone else, reading this comment - Feel free to chip in!

So beautiful, how do you tune a 15 strings, i have a 10 and a 21 and unsure how to tune my bigger on. Your playing is utterly beaitiful
@arjakastinen
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks - you can tune the kanteles in several ways. My 15-stringer is tuned diatonically (it can be what ever scale you want - major, minor, mixolydian etc.) and the tonic is usually the fourth string from low. The pitch of the tonic depends on the structure of the particular instrument. The modern small kanteles (from 5 to 15 strings) are usually built to be tuned in D, but there are other possibilities, as well. The maker of the instrument should tell the suitable pitch. Without seeing your 21-stringer I would guess that you can tune it in a diatonic scale (major, minor, or what you want) and you can choose where to put the tonic (is it the fift from below of the fourth or the first..). And you should find the suitable pitch so that the strings won't break and that the timbre would be ideal.

I've never heard of the kantele until a few years ago, it sounds like nothing else, 😊 amazing. If I didn't see you play I would think at least two people were playing. Your easily the best kantele player I've ever heard. Thanks for the great music.👍👍

These beautiful sounds remind me of April somewhere in the countryside with birch forest, when the sun wakes up and icicles from huts' roofs start to melt with droplets on a bright day. Thank you for sharing this beauty.

Thanks for the good wishes. It is going to be project of my life. I already spent three years just for reading scientific literature regarding Kalevala backgrounds, philology and Finnish history. I even started a little crowdfunding campaign, so I can buy more literature and maybe some advertisements later, but it seems like noone really wants to donate for a non-profit novel... however, I'll go on and finish it. Even if it takes my whole life to make it perfect. :)

That means a lot to me. I'm not sure if I'll ever read something like this from a German. The Kalevala is pretty unknown here (that's what I want to change with my novel). The only help and support I receive is from Finnish people - though I am writing the book in German and don't speak Finnish at all. ;)
