🎶Scatterplot 🎶 and my little unnamed painting from a while back, re-imagined. I wanted to write some music around one of my other nerdy interests: data 😍📈📊 I love data because it makes up everything, everything is made up of variables. Things influence other things and weave into complex models. Data points on sheet music connect up to a create a melody. Brushstrokes and pixels, colours and light all create images, and our brains process it, connecting new data to old data in our memories and making sense of how things relate to other things. Data points are at the root of everything, but become so much more when worked with and made meaningful. 🧠 💻 I love impressionist paintings because they demonstrate how our brains create sense and meaning and beauty out of messiness. The painter distills a scene down to enough data points for your brain to fill in the gaps and details (which is what your brain does all the time in life anyway). 🖼️ I messed around with a kaleidoscope effect in making this video, and the longer I’ve stared at it, the longer I began to see things in the dots and patterns that aren’t really there, almost like a Rorschach test. Our brains can also sometimes find connections that aren’t really there and we have to watch out for that in life and in data too. 👀
