I LOVE painting scenes from movies!! It teaches us so much about observation, composition, lighting, color theory, color mixing, and so much more. I loved what you said about the image always being on the canvas, and you pushing around paint to pull it out. 💛

Painting from movies is now dominating my art experience because there are so many people I love and also need to paint! I'm learning how to be a better artist through digital painting since it's very forgiving; also I'm using color picking to study the colors better in the reference image. Your art is amazing and I have so much respect for it, especially since your skill level is advanced (to me) in several paint mediums. 10/10 For movies I'm fixating on to paint: Story of Voyages/Tale of Wanderings (depends on how who's translating the title). It's on youtube with English subtitles, not to be confused with the other one on youtube without subs. Dark fantasy with an amazing aesthetic, a brave little heroine, found family, gorgeous soundtrack that still wrings my gut when I listen to a certain song, and also lots of inspirational happenings and gut stabs to the feelings. Ordinary Miracle (1978): also on youtube, remastered, and with subs. Funny, inspirational, with also amazing characters. Ever single one of them. And they're a somewhat extensive cast, in a way. It's also fantasy.

I’m thinking of doing screencap paintings of my family’s favorite movies, and if I think they’re good enough I want to give them out as holiday/birthday presents, so stuff like The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, Mulholland Drive, etc.

I love your art style and your voice calms me so much, Emily! 🥺 btw I'm super late to this video but since you asked for our favorite movies, I recently watched 'The thief and the cobbler' which is an animated film that was never finished BUT THE ANIMATION??!! OMG it's the craziest thing I've ever seen, the palace where it takes places is made out of optical illusions! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it, the perspective game is incredible! It's on KZitem for free, there's different cuts because the production (It took three decades!!) was a mess and some of them have musical moments, in others the two main characters are muted...but if you want the most complete version a fan managed to find many storyboards and animated a few parts to be as close as possible to the original creator's version. It's called 'The thief and the cobbler recobbled'. Sorry for the long comment lol I'm just very passionate about the art on that film ❤️

this video is sooo pretty and the portraits are outstanding!!! i'm so glad I found your channel! i love the way you paint in oils & the way you added the flat brushstrokes to the gouache painting- I can't decide which I like more. I'm constantly going between oils and gouache! i'd love to see more portrait painting videos :) oh and i'm not sure if it's the type of movie you like, but my favorite movie is quiz show (which incidentally has some fun moody lighting and i need to paint from it now!)

Thank you so much Adi! Oils and gouache are so fun to switch between because of how different they are! You definitely should paint from Game Show, the lighting looks ideal for painted portraits (lot's of cool cast shadows!) I'm adding it to my list of movies to watch :) Thanks again! ✨

How do you wipe off something from your painting without leaving a mark?
@emhuesart
Жыл бұрын
In oils, I use odourless mineral spirits to wipe off any mistakes! This only really works if the paint is still fairly wet though, you would have less success wiping it off if you waited a day or longer. For gouache I don't really wipe anything away! :-)

My wife had a huge issue with my art books with nude studies in them. She’s very insecure, so I got rid of all of them. No, I only study the clothed figure, so as not to upset or stumble her in Christ.
