In this video, we'll be learning how to mix colors and create smooth, yet realistic transitions using oil paints while avoiding the most common mistakes, like overmixing. Palette and pigments
Here are the pigments I’ll use for this demonstration, I’m pretty much using my go to palette with titanium white, yellow ochre, transparent red oxyde, pyrrole red, quinacridone rose, burnt umber, ultramarine blue, cobalt teal blue and phthalo green yellow shade. I’m using a glass palette with a neutral grey background to see all the nuances in tones and hues. This grey background is the first tip you can take from this tutorial: it can make a pretty big difference compared to other colors, it’s neutral, it doesn’t influence the color perception in any direction, it makes the colors look exactly as light or dark as they are, which is not the case with a white background for instance, which makes everything look dark in comparison. And it’s neutral so it’s neither warm nor cool, it’s just in the middle which allows you to perceive all the important difference in shades between the colors.
