If Simba found the f22 so unstable with large rudder input, something is wrong with the flight model based on how it behaves in Growling Sidewinder’s videos and what you can see IRL at air shows. Also, I think the F22 mod has no thrust vectoring, so one should either turn that off for the Felon or buff some other parameters in the F22 SFM to boost the turn rate. My understanding is the Felon came after the F22 had the helmet sight, so again that would need to be disabled in the Felon or added to the F22. Finally, in a 1 turn post merge fight with HOB IR missiles, surely you would keep burners off - you’d trade ending up slower for lower IR signature. No idea if the IR model in DCS is anywhere near good enough to capture this though. Anyway, great video to prompt discussion & great to hear the comments on both planes!

I imagine the capabilities of a Felon come down to each individual bird. Was this one riveted with care? Did that one have a competent maintenance crew? @@hanrockabrand95My thoughts exactly. And not it's not like the F22 is infallible either, some have crashed with mechanical failure. Yes that's a pretty accurate take given what we see online. The issue however is there's alot of misinformation about the Su-57's stealth and the missiles it would use and how well they perform. The full stealth considered test and production models are alot stealthier than any most online modesl has shown up until now (comparably to F-22 and F-35, it's due to the heavy bias by those testing to just assume random things about the Su-57 despite information about almost everything about it being available, including the partial S duct and S duct on demand drop down radar blocker). The Su-57 actually shoots very well at much further ranges.

It's more or less as I figured. To the best of my knowledge, the F-22 has a weak point in that it can only use thrust vectoring for its pitch and roll, but not yaw. Most modern twin-engine Russian fighters, with the exception of the MiG-31, have full thrust vectoring for pitch, roll, as well as yaw. Assuming the flight models are accurate, this may have been a factor when they encountered problems with F-22's rudder inputs; At air velocities and attack angles where control surfaces fail due to aerodynamics, the F-22 has very limited options to control yaw as the nozzles cannot vector thrust left or right. The Su-57 does not have this problem.

The Su-57 model seems to be performing too well on turns like a video game plane and not a real plane. Something is wrong with its design. The F-22 seems to have a design error as well with the rudder causing it to stall? Does this happen to the real plan? If so my bad. Yes I'm from USA and rooting for the F-22, but the problems still exist despite my bias. 😇 Despite all that, a better pilot can do more with a lesser plane. so it is what it is.

I think the thrust vectoring is too strong on the felon. Yes, it has "3d" thrust vectoring, but irl that puts a more restrictive limit on how far it can pitch vector.

@@grimreapers thanks for the info! I'm wondering how correct the public numbers are on the su57; just looking at its top view it should have a much higher moment of inertia compared to the f22.

Hey it is what it is. Is it actually that way in real life who knows I guess unless they go up together we will never know. But I would give the American Pilot the edge just due to skill. At least from the way I have watched the Russians Operate in Ukraine. If they are half as good as what we actually thought the Russian military was before this war started, then I don't think they stand much of a chance. Due to experience basically... Great video guys, Thanks!

Considering YF-23 is a 33 year-old museum piece with only the most basic avionics and sensors (with being an early prototype), putting it against a production F-22 would be a bit of a mismatch. The YF-23 cockpit is literally that of a Strike Eagle, neither of the models built ever demonstrated that they could fire a missile, and they couldn't even fall back to using their gun because they didn't have one. Probably make for a boring video watching it get curb stomped over and over without even putting up a fight.
