*Just completed a big trim project on my house **MyBest.Tools** Performed very well. Also appreciate how easy it is to move, set up and store with the integrated stand. No more cutting wood on my knees.*

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice kzitem.infoUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

That is an awesome setup. My situation is the same, not a lot of space, building the mold under the deck is a great idea. I'm going to give it a shot today, my deck is just way too short. Kudos.

I was hoping to see u build this thing bro. So I see u just dropped ur new table top over the old one. I have to remove my top bcos of the way it's made. It has these grooves in it that make it really uneven all across it and the bloody fence is a joke. Too shoert and it moves away from u as u try to rip boards.. It's one of those shitty half fences u get nowadays.. I'm a little ost atm but I'm going out to my garage soon to blt out a proper fence to begin with and see how that fair 1st and then if I have to I'm going to take the top off my saw and replace it with 18mm MDF. The blade height is 80mm so I can afford to lose 18mm off it and still get a decent height anyways bro.. Gald to se u have a better working saw now man.. Great work and keep up the brilliant work pal.. Salute from IRELAND..

I just got the same table saw, and my biggest aggravation is fidgeting with the fence every time I unlock it to adjust the cut size... This is the best option I have seen to upgrade and replace the fence... good video, btw.

Great video! This video provided the information I was looking for. Solves all the problems I have with my table saw without spending at least $1000 on a new saw. Straight and to the point. Got a question though after a couple years how has the MDF held up. Will be trying this!

no one becomes an expert youtube video creator with their first few tries, that being said, maybe create a followup video to this where you take some close video of each of the components you worked on to improve your tablesaw, the top, the rip fence, the locking mechanism, etc. Looking at your for 5-10min from a distance and we can't see any of the improvements doesn't do much for making a great video - record the details up close, record some narration after the fact, blend the 2 together and upload that as a video, you may get a better and overall more positive response to your videos - just some advice, good luck.

Thank you. I didn't focus on the details because the guys I borrowed from covered most if it very thoroughly, although I see where I could have focused more on the locking mechanism and base frame.

I totally need this set up. I bought a used small table but I can never rip long cuts . I have a 10 x10 shed so space is limited. I was looking for a remove able top for when needed. I wonder if there is a way to make the table level with table so you don't lose any blade height? There's gotta be.

What did you recommend to use to finish mdf table saw tops or jigs to provide moisture resistance and durability? Will a cheap can of spray lacquer be sufficient?

Question - So, by putting that on top of the existing table, you've effectively reduced the depth of material you can cut by 1/2 and inch, yes? Do you know what the max height of the blade is now? Thanks!
@phaided

About 2.5". The height was 3.1" before I built the top.

Thanks bud. You did a great job on your table saw and your explanation of how to do it. I am going to approach mine the exact same way. I will take a little bit of info from you and others. Hopefully, I will be as successful as you have been.

I think you said it, but what are the dimensions of the top? do you wish it was bigger? smaller?

That's a 2' x 4' sheet of 1/2" MDF. The width is fine for what I do, but I wish I'd gone with a 4' x 4' sheet so I could have positioned it for more infeed and outfeed room. 4' x 4' may be a little much, though. I'd probably make it 4 wide x 3 deep if I had to do it over again.

planning on doing this tomorrow night! thanks for the info.. another question, how did you square up the top board? I know you tried to explain it in the video but I'm not sure I follow. thanks again!
@phaided

Wow. I totally apologize for missing this comment. Fortunately, the back of the original top was perfectly perpendicular to the blade. I squared the MDF up with the top, clamped it down, and installed the side boards so it wouldn't twist. Then I slid the top back so it was roughly centered and screwed the front and rear boards in place.

hey how did you make the base the one that came with my saw suck and you look like it might work thanks
@phaided

It was a bit of a process because I was throwing scrap together. 2x4's and 1.25" dowels. Same principle as a folding chair. Two short lengths of 2x4 form an "X" to make one set of legs. A piece of dowel through the middle lets the legs scissor. The dowels you can see in the video run the full depth of the stand. The 2x4's that form the square base are notched at one end to slide over the dowel and lock. When I want to put the stand away, I lift the notched end, press the legs down, and the square base nests between the legs. I did have to brace the legs with some scrap plywood to take some of the wobble out. The whole thing could use some tweaking, but it serves its purpose for now.

I have a dumb question. Just bought a cheap table saw, and am looking to make something like this. But doesn’t this effectively remove the ability to make any kind of angled cut? Would using a jig saw to cut out a section around the blade, whether for angled cuts up to 45deg, or even dado rips, be smart? Too much saw dust? Risk of the piece catching as u slide it thru? Or would the lost height make an angled cut impossible? Thanks man, great vid!
@phaided

You could still cut angles, but the thickness of your boards would be limited. For angles, I just remove this top and use the factory fence, taking extra care with a speed square to make sure the fence is right. I wouldn't cut a wider hole in this top because narrower pieces of wood could fall in and mess up your cut. Since you have a jigsaw, you could make inserts and swap them out as needed. You could also make two tops...one for angles and one for 90's. Here's a vid for inserts. I plan to do this in the future. You'd need to glue a finish nail into the back (upstroke end) of the insert and drill a corresponding hole in the deck so the insert doesn't catch the blade and flip up if the blade wobbles. kzitem.info/news/bejne/tmxs2qZqq2KBrJg

There are plenty of people making videos of them making the exact same fence as someone else......the exact same router table with those stupid flappy doors and extraction slots who pass it off as their own. #sheep. This at least is different and does bring together a selection of good ideas. From this better ideas will flourish. From sheep, more of the dreary same.
