Since 2016, more than 2,700 cancer patients have been touched by the Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative (MCGI), a program of The Jackson Laboratory.
Part of what makes the MCGI unique is its success in a very rural area of the US. Not long ago, Maine cancer patients would have to travel hours away to the nearest major city to receive precision medicine for their cancer. Today, thanks to MCGI, cancer patients have access to genomic tumor testing, global expertise in tumor analysis and targeted therapies, and clinical trials at their own healthcare facilities.
MCGI is delivering the latest advances in precision cancer care directly to patients, and a key component in the effort are Genomic Tumor Boards (GTBs). GTBs are sessions hosted by MCGI to better interpret clinical genomic test results. Each GTB session brings together precision oncology experts from around the globe, illuminating options for patient care that were not immediately clear before. The sessions help doctors navigate the complex data derived from cancer panel testing to guide each patient’s treatment options and improve care.
The GTBs are being recognized and studied around the US, and the MCGI model is already informing rural cancer care here and around the globe.
MCGI makes a difference in patients’ lives and directly contributes to The Jackson Laboratory’s quest to improve human health. Learn more about MCGI here: www.jax.org/cl...
