Admirable.

I noticed the chamades are a lot brighter and more pronounced in this recording than those of recent years (certainly before the fire). Even on the last professional recording with Olivier Latry when he played Toccata and Fugue, you can hear the chamades had a muted type sound, but in this 1987 recording, they're crystal clear. Anyone know why?
@eb.1

DrJK 756 I think they re-winded the chamades in 1992. I think they may have even completely changed the higher pitched chamade stop Regale 2/16 to Regale 8
@eb.1

Also I think since 1992 the organists uses the newer rounder chamades in addition to the Cochereau chamades, which also dulls the overall sharpness of their sound quality
@drjk7565

@@eb.1 In that case, it's a shame since the older chamades gave it a character that was unique to Notre Dame. Apparently I read somewhere that they dulled the chamades so that it sounds similar to the organ at St Sernin. Hopefully when they restore the organ in the coming years they bring it back to at least the Cochereau era.

DrJK 756 Yep the 1992 chamades we’re meant to sound like St. Sernin. I understand the purpose of them, since they are more cohesive with the normal Cavaillé-Coll sound. However the 1968 chamades really fit the aesthetic of the organ that it had become, which was at its core still a Cavaillé-Coll but with basically more mixtures and a few other stops added.

@@drjk7565 I agree. There are several other things they could do in the restoration, most notably the re-introduction of the Positif de Dos, a project very much desired by Pierre Cochereau. The case of the Positif de Dos was recently restored to perfect condition and was stored in the galleries of the cathedral. But certainly the restoration of the Robert Boisseau chamades to their former condition would be very welcome.
