The drag flick evolved around 7 years later after the PC rule that the ball travel out of the D was introduced

@@erroldcruz Drag flicks dominate the game now ...to be honest pen corners are ridiculously dangerous .What with players physicality and stick technology .I've played with a couple of players whose careers were finished by shattered knees from drag flicks .

@@wobblertv8083 i agree. I've been suggesting a 5 v4 face off instead of the current PC.

@@erroldcruz Good shout. To be honest back in the 70s 80s short corners were the main source of goals .But now the game has been freed up with the turning rule gone so you get a lot more open play goals .And of coarse the self pass .

@@wobblertv8083 the winds of change -- in 1992, after the Barcelona Olympics, the rolling substitution rule, the modified obstruction rule and the stipulation that the injected ball at a PC must travel out of the circle thereby helping the drag flick to evolve. Then in 1996, came the radical offside rule. The most pleasing radical rule came in 2009 -- the self pass. It has really sped up the game and reduced stoppages! Of course, the steady changes of rules since the early 1970s and the advent of synthetic pitches have contributed to a more TV and spectator friendly game of today. I only frown on the congestion in and around the circle and the absence of the "through pass". The PC is dangerous and sometimes confusing to the fan outside the fraternity. But that's a theme for another day.
