WOW! Thank you for sharing this 1985 Columbus 500 race with everyone! This was an Alan Wilson and Jim Trueman designed track with Alan's wife Formula 1 and later Indycar driver Desiree run event. Please note that Jim Trueman of Red Roof Inn fame and Bobby Rahals team owner competed in this race only to pass in 1986 a few days after Bobby won the 1986 Indy 500. A true gentlemen racer and great businessman! The grandstands and some of the concrete blocks and fencing now reside at MidOhio. Thank you, Buck R. and especially to Jim Trueman, who both made this event happen, and as you can see, it was a great success! I was a local resident and restaurateur who was one of a few local folks who had the honor to serve over the years on the tiny staff of Alan and Desiree. Over those years, the Columbus Ford Dealers hosted this great event later to inspire then Sawmill Road Ford Dealer owner Dick Ruhl to become a competitor in a Ford Probe street stock car in what was then called the Firestone Firehawk series with many members of a past team of mine that was fortunate enough to compete in the 1989 Columbus 500 weekend Firehawk support race that Paul Newman and aspiring racer Tom Cruise competed in. Over the years of this event, we lost GTP competitor Al Hobart to a plane crash at the OSU Airport. I hope all of you enjoyed this replay of what was truly one of the greatest North American street courses and races!

Imagine watching football matches.. you had to know, which player was in each position, because you couldn't always tell the numbers on their back

Not that the Porsche can take the beating from the streets much better. It shows a bit more of how terrible the roads are in Columbus.. or were. Not sure about now

Now there's something you'll likely never again see in Columbus. No, not the street race, I'm talking about a Republican mayor. 😄
