It's good to see a younger person's perspective on BoTW and the sequel we're all waiting for. In contrast, I was 11 when Ocarina came out, and had that same feeling of awe you hold for BoTW. Nine more days and we'll have something new to explore and more memories to make.

“10 years old when breath of the wild came out” really did a number on my psyche. It’s crazy that an adult now was a child when that game came out. When I was 9 Windwaker came out and from 1998 when I was like 5 and I remember Awakening DX coming out we pretty much had a Zelda game or two every year up until basically twilight princess. It’s crazy to imagine if only one or two came out when I was a kid

I was 14 when BotW released, 20 now. I got my start with the series with OoT 3d in 2012, then played Windwaker HD, Zelda 1 and 2, LADX, Link Between Worlds, and Majoras Mask all before BotW released. I remember talking with a friend in 2014 when he told me about Zelda U and we talked about what the game might be. I was following the game very closely and after the 2017 trailer expected it to be the best game I ever played. I picked it up launch day and loved every moment of it, I had never had so much fun with a game. Now I am finishing my sophomore year of college on Friday and can’t wait to jump into Tears of the Kingdom next weekend. A lot of things are different now, but my love for Zelda games has always stayed with me. BotW defined my best gaming experience in high school and it looks TotK will be doing the same for my college years. It seems we are in for quite a great game.

As a 17 year old I completely love your mentioning of botw being around at a relatively young age and totk releasing during young adolescents. Botw played such a big part in my beginnings of highschool (in australia we begin highschool in year 7). I didn't pick the game up until 2019, and I remember talking with my friends who bought it around the same time. Going on excursions but all we care about is how each of us did a certain thing in our playthrough. As it was my first year of highschool it was a solid talking point that began a few long friendships. I really associate botw with my school, as with age of calamity, (and totk next week) I remember running home with my friends so we can play it as soon as we can. I seriously love this video, it perfectly encapsulates what made botw such a special experience.

As a 29 year old, I grew up playing all the older Zelda tittles and it's so nice to see that younger generations still consider the Zelda franchise to be among their favourites. I remember feeling awe and a huge sense of exploration when I played Wind Waker. This was such a fantastic video, keep up the great work and I hope to see some great ToTK content in the near future!

Its crazy how this game has been with you for pretty much half of your life… while for me the game came out when I graduated high school, and now about to graduate college with my masters degree. These 6 years have really flown by for me and its just crazy seeing how you actually grew up with this game and it was your whole childhood
@Swack

So odd, right? It plays a vital role in my childhood, and yet somehow I feel similarly about these past 6 years, SO much has happened inbetween, but it feels like it was just yesterday the game was being released. Also, congratulations on your approaching graduation!

Awesome! I can relate to your video but from a different generation. I was in my teens when the first Zelda came out on NES. Seeing it at a friend's house is what prompted me to get an NES so I could play "The Legend of Zelda". It was absolutely amazing at the time compared to other games. (To me anyway) I haven't played every game in the franchise but I have most of them. I love how the people at Nintendo have created this wonderful universe. The lore has evolved and grown over the years but has never lost it's magic or the ability to keep it fresh. When I first got Breath of the Wild, after the opening cutscenes and leaving the shrine of resurrection, that first view looking ot over the Great Plateau, was awe inspiring. I hadn't seen anything yet but already I knew that this was the Zelda game I had dreamt of since I was in school. It's more than I could have imagined. I was introduced to Zelda in my late teens, approaching adulthood, similar to you. But now as I am sitting here anticipating Tears of the Kingdom I find myself in my late fifties. An ocean of water has gone under my bridge, more gone than yet to come. I don't know exactly describe my connection to Zelda. There is a subtle deepness to these games, an interwoven philosophy. There is a flavor of truth. Just something. I imagine other fans know what I aam trying to describe. Seeing how they have evolved into something so beautiful and the music is astounding. I'm sure Zelda will continue for many generations. I sincerely hope one day you find yourself in your mid fifties. Anxiously awaiting an astounding new holodeck version of the latest adventures of Link. The 60-somethingth installment of the Zelda franchise. (I hope you might also be a Star Trek fan in some form, at least enough to know what a holodeck is.) I don't know if there will be total imersion holographics by then but I certainly hope so. When to get to actually hold a monster cake in your hand and take a bite, jjust give a nod to the universe to all the old Zelda fans who would have loved a bite!! I'm thrilled to be alive right now to see what we have and what's coming in the Zelda universe. So far it is beauty beyond words, the most stunning game I have ever played I'm sure will be reflected in the upcoming release! On May 12th the world will be a brighter place for millions of people. I think we could use a little more light in this world. Peace and Love my friend! I loved your video. It obviously made me nostalgic.

It's so cool that you got the chance to have this experience with BotW in your youth/adolescence. Ocarina of Time was that game for me. It came out when I was 8 and playing it was the most mind blowing thing. I remember spending hours just exploring the world, not even doing quests but rather just existing in the world. Very much the same way that BotW feels today. But back then just seeing and experiencing a grand adventure in 3 dimensions was incredible. I like to say that BotW is the game that my 8 year old mind felt like Ocarina of Time was. I'm so grateful for BotW nothing else in the world has been able to make me feel like a kid again the way that game can. It literally is healing for my inner child. Anyway, great video. Here's to TotK and another grand adventure!!

Great video recounting your experience with BotW and leading into your anticipation of TotK. I remember picking up the switch on launch with the BotW Collector's edition. My memories of my first playthrough have stayed with me the whole time since that was the last time I experienced childlike wonder in a video game. I hope TotK will capture that feeling, too. The final Trailer certainly gave me similar feelings to BotW's final trailer.

Congrats on getting the algorithmic blessing, my good man. I like your inclusion of Elden Ring (the best game ever). I know we've talked about it extensively, so this is more to archive in the comments, but Elden Ring is my perfect fantasy game. It has everything my younger self ever wanted in a game. It's better than Breath of the Wild. But Elden Ring will never have quite the same nostalgic draw as Breath of the Wild. As much as I love Miyazaki's writing, imagery, and philosophy, it can't beat the child-like wonder I had in highschool climbing over mountains, flying through fields, whacking bokoblins, and pooping my pants whenever a dead guardian came back to life in Breath of the Wild.

Did you play Link to the past on SNES? That was the one that got me hooked on Zelda. I had a NES in the 80/90s but didn't have any Zelda games for that. I got Link to the past and never looked back. These long dev times are kind of nerve wracking to me , because it makes me ask the question, "Will I live long enough to see the next mainline?" I'm only 25 and in fairly good health, so I can only imagine how it might feel for those who are older or who have different circumstances.
@Swack
Жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, it's really odd that we can feasibly calculate how many mainline Zeldas we all have left if these dev times become consistent.
@cullenmuir2707
Жыл бұрын
@@Swack Though that cannot even be entirely relied on as dev times seem to get longer for every installment in just about every AAA franchise. So while BOTW and TOTK might have six between them years it could be ten or more for the next one, especially if everything is redone like how Zelda is usually made. Could be that you're my age or 30 by the next Zelda game and you'll be getting ready for it and see some 17 year old say that Tears of the Kingdom was an important entry for their childhood. For example when I was in my senior year and Fallout 4 had just come out around my birthday, and here I am at 25 halfway to 26 and Fallout 5 might not come until I'm well into my 30's as pre-production hasn't even started. That said I heard of an interview where some dev said the traditional model of making games bigger and bigger is becoming unfeasible, suggesting things will either plateau or shrink for future games. So that's a small comfort.
