Good job Andy.. and I envy you the temperatures... We have sunshine too... but.. roughly 9-12 degrees celsius.... so not exactly outdoor weather... but you got yourself a nice collection of kits for the future..:D

Nice review, Andy. I will be getting one of these RSN. Glad to hear you're replacing the gun: the kit gun is the wrong (US) type, and should be the British style. As far as temperatures go, it was as warm here in the English Midlands yesterday as it was for you!

Ah actually the Israelis captured many of the T54 & T55 tanks from the Egyptians who abandoned many of them in the Sinai Peninsula during the Six Day War of 1967. I recently purchased Trumpeter's version of this tank for $19.95 and while it doesn't have the real fine detailing Tamiya has, I can make the Trumpeter look just as good as the Tamiya kit at half the cost. You done good getting your kit for $31.99 on eBay. I see it online going for $45+ depending on where one shops???

+Texas Hi-Railer Yes, I know and I essentially stated that in the video. I'm sorry the Trumpeter kit is garbage I wouldn't waste my time on that old kit savings or not unless you are going to by the full Eduard PE set for it there is no way it would ever be up to the standards of any of the newer kits. Trumpeter is about to release an all new tool T-55 that should be quite nice. Takom (www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Military_Vehicles/t-55-am-russian-medium-tank/TAK00002041/product.php?kw=T-55) has also recently released several version of the T-55 and a T-54 as well and all of them are far superior to that old Trumpeter kit. Remember this is a hobby so all of the dollars spent are discretionary and for me and my precious rare free time that means I will always go with a better option as long as there is one. U.S. hobby dealers either brick and mortar or online are greedy and most of the items we buy can be had for far less from Japanese or Chinese/Hong Kong dealers thanks to Ebay or sites like Lucky Model. Tamiya especially can be had for 40-50% less from Japanese dealers because the Yen is at a 12-13 year low against the dollar.

Another great kit from Tamiya. I like your reviews as they are very thorough and I may get this tank kit later once I have completed my T-62A kit from Tamiya :). Consider me subscribed!

Close. Israel captured the T-54, T-55, and T-62 tanks from Syria as well as Egypt. Egyptian armies retreated across the Sinai in dissaray abandoning equipment, including tanks, so it wasn't just Syrian tanks, but Egyptian as well. And Israel upgraded them to the Tiran series because their US tanks were much better than the Soviet ones but this was essentially free tanks so they modified them to fit with their military. Later when they deeided the tanks were too old to be tanks they used the chassis to build IFV's and APC's out of them. Talk about getting the most out of your money.

Here's a great video link if you want to learn some quick but accurate data about the IDF history of tanks. It's not a long video however it has a great deal of info for as short as it is and it makes for a great reference video when buying & building Israeli IDF tanks. +Texas Hi-Railer Thanks I'll check it out but I'm well aware plus I have a pretty extensive reference library. The video you watched is well over 2 years old btw. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
