As the cows were still much in evidence this week we put up a new gate together at the entrance to the farm which so far has kept them out. We also spent quite a lot of time (and money) on getting in a JCB to work on the New Horizon vegetable garden that had got very overgrown. As this is a well enclosed space we are going to improve it by putting in an electric fence, if we can afford it, to keep out the pigs. We are then going to plant a lot of our root crops here which, without the pig activity, will hopefully be more successful than they have been in the last few years. We have also made a large earth bank on which we are going to grow palmyra shoots which according to Rajan are considered a delicacy in this part of the world. I’m really glad we have at last found a use for all the palmyra seeds that we get each year. Next job will be to plough and plant the area. Before the JCB left we cleared up around the gate and will put out plants as soon as we can.
