You have to be heavily self-motivated to succeed in sales. Some of the top sales people I worked with would show up early and leave late. They'd also work over the weekend off the clock to close deals. It ain't for people who just want a high paying 9 to 5.

Just to add another perspective, I was a top salesperson and was committed to a work-life balance. I think it's crucial to be able to get stuff done and get into rhythms where you can sustain a lot of actions. But! As you mentioned in the video, there are different types of PMs... and with those different subsets, different definitions and functions of the role day to day. Technical Product Manager, Business Product Manager, Product and Delivery Manager... and at higher levels VP Product Strategy, DevOps... so much potential and so many pathways to take. In a future video, I encourage you to include Program Manager and Scrum Master... and perhaps the roles I mentioned above, though they are more niche. There's a lot out there, and I think this is just the beginning. Happy 2021. You're awesome! :)

There are 3 types of income: working income, business income, and investment income. Working income is the worst bc it is limited by the amount of hours you work. It is also taxed the most, therefore, inefficient. Business income is much better because it is greatly scalable and thus not based on hours worked. Same with investment income. These two are both taxed much more favorably when compared to working income. 1. Learn a skill and become expert. Use working income to learn industry practical skills and establish reputation. 2. Start business oriented towards your passion utilizing your skills. Fail start again and repeat. Scale it and build it. Also use investments to build sustainable and protected wealth. Don’t chase a high salary, chase risk in starting your own business, working for yourself, and investing. Good luck and have fun

UI/UX still need to be coded, for the rest you don't have to personally be coding, but you do need to be familiar with the topics. Depending on the needs of the company they will hire engineers to still do the job instead of coding because it reduces the time to communicate technical aspects of a project. If you did some of these with no idea about coding then you would be passed for the job by most companies.

The numbers look okay until you check out the baseline. By that I mean what does it cost to live in your area. For example, on Long Island, New York, right outside of NYC, it costs almost $40,000 for a single person to live "no-frills." A $60,000 salary doesn't look all that good and, in fact, unless you're living in your parent's basement you're not going to survive long on $60K. Average annual income around here is about $125K. The situation is much, much worse in California. Moreover, the job you have today can vanish tomorrow: the company you work for changes course or disappears altogether and then you're on the streets hustling for a new gig. There are only two kinds of jobs that consistently pay well: (1) those that require skills that are essential, hard to acquire, and which few people have; and (2) the nasty jobs no one else wants or is willing to do but are essential. Think of unclogging sewer lines, for example: absolutely necessary, but a job very few people are willing to do for themselves. No college required, no bootcamp required, no ridiculous interviews, and around here they charge about $500 per visit.

Definitely always been interested in UX/UI and have been looking into Product Management (which kind of align with the current role I am in within Higher Education) and recently added UX research to my job description which i think will benefit me when i start the job search

These are great ideas, yet a major barrier remains the extensive experience requirements in addition to the bro culture in tech. Also, it’s nearly impossible to get an entry level role in UI/UX or Product Management because many job descriptions require degrees in HCI, CS, Engineering, etc. So, those individuals are still favored and are applying for full time roles after having completed internships that also favored their majors.

Was doing both backend and front end coding. Previous position was Front-End engineer, and now I'm Delivery Manager which is close to Product Manager. I'm still working around code, but I'm tired of mostly coding for last 20 years. Going to keep with management roles for now.

I really like the UI UX position, sounds nice. It combines my artistic inclination with my love for research. I actually come from a Customer Success and Sales background (in a major insurance company) and even though it makes good money, I freakin HATE it!!! It sucked my soul out of my body lol
