I cannot wait to share the fully furnished space with all of you once it's finally done in a few months but for now, I wanted to share an in-depth walkthrough of the space and the features we selected to make it accessible to meet my specific needs as a blind woman. Having a space that is designed to be both beautiful, and enable me to be as independent as possible, is a true gift I wish all disabled people could have. I am so grateful to everyone involved at every level and the love, hard work, and effort they put into making this dream space a reality for me. The team at Dwell Living listened to me and what I needed and wanted and made this space more special than I could have imagined. It was worth the wait! Thank youth all of the plumbers, electricians, millwork and ceiling guys. Thank you to the designers, builders, brands, and everyone in-between. Most importantly, thank you to Dwell Living, my family, and all of you.

Molly, thank you for sharing your new home, it is truly a work of art! Texture is so invigorating in a space, instead of plain walls. I love the dark color doors, they add a really nice contrast to the rooms. I know right?! As a disabled person myself, I can say that I think we adapt very well and are used to things not being made for us. And so it just makes it all the more special when something IS made for you! I got to stay in a completely wheelchair adapted house and I literally cried! I got to shower with minimum help for the first time since becoming disabled over 10 years ago. IMPORTANT ABOUT THE COOKTOP! My Mom just got the same one in her kitchen Reno, while it doesn't stay hot nearly as long as other stoves, IT IS STILL HOT AFTER USE! Was coming to say this! I have an induction cooktop and it does become hot to the touch!
@MeganJester
Жыл бұрын
Induction cooktops get about as hot as the counter would if you put a hot pan directly on it, and then touched it after moving. The way induction works scientifically is heat transfer, so a quick touch would just be noticeable heat, not a burn! I think she just meant she will be able to touch it, notice where her hand is, and move it before she actually burns herself. Each induction cooktop is different, but the idea of induction is that the pan gets hot, not the surface. So while she should still exercise caution, most induction cooktops, especially expensive af ones like that, do not get as hot as gas or electric, and won’t burn you if you touch it and remove your hand quickly

This place is absolutely stunning! So high end. I know you probably won’t share, but I’m dying to know the cost of the renovation and the cost of the Dwell team designers! Even though it’s a small space and there were no walls moved, I feel like the renovation must’ve cost a small fortune because of all the high end details (even the small ones like the doorknobs) and especially because of all of that beautiful custom mill work and the fact that wood is so expensive right now (those high end details & custom mill-work is what makes this renovation so stunning). And I think the design team must’ve cost a small fortune as well, especially because the project took so long, although they were worth every single penny. That lead designer (Shannon?) was absolutely amazing at finding out your style and how you “see” things and what makes things accessible for you; and I loved watching her excitement as she led you around the space. You can tell that this renovation meant a lot to her and that she really went above and beyond to try and give you the most perfect space. This renovation was so worth whatever you spent and I’m so happy you get to live in such a wonderful space that was created just for your needs. As someone with a lot of health issues and that hasn’t been able to live in my own space, this is the ultimate dream, to have your own space and to have it work perfectly for your needs. I’m so happy for you.

You can still have a shower option in the guest bath without compromising the look at all... To get around the shower curtain issue, they have these really cool retractable shower screens. They are motorized at the push of a button they come down and act as a shower curtain then retract into the ceiling making them virtually invisible! Then you can put a black hook that blends into the wall to hold the shower wand as a shower head OR you could put in a beautiful rainfall shower head in the ceiling! This would be perfect for guests who prefer showers but still leave it looking exactly how it is now with nothing in the way of your baths! And bonus, it would up the resale value of your home to have the shower option, which is always a good thing! Congrats on your home, it's absolutely gorgeous!! 😊 ❤️

It doesn't get hot by itself, but it does get hot because it is in direct contact with the pan/pot that is hot so, when you remove it from the cooktop, the surface where it was placed will be hot for a few minutes and can definitely burn. Fun fact! Clothes should be sorted by weight of material, not colour. Gentles/regulars/hand wash. You can also use SHOUT colour catcher sheets in the washing machine to catch any colour bleeding, although that’s typically only a concern when clothes are brand new.

I'm of the opinion that sorting clothes is a load of hogwash 😄 i used to sort my clothes, but I stopped when I had kids, and my clothes have been just fine. The only thing I wash separately is if I get new jeans or something I know will bleed, I wash those with old towels or something.

So incredible! The smart and conscious design to make every inch of this home interactive for you is just so well done! It gladdens me so much that you own your own place now, and that its outfitted to the T for you specifically as a disabled person! Will Niamh be living with you here and if so, will she have her own room or share with you? Mad props to your father and to her for the way they show up for you and support you

An hour long video tour of an empty 2% unfinished condo led by a blind person? Heck yeah!! Watching it all straight through I am living for this! 😁 Seriously though I had an exhausting emotionally draining day and this was the perfect thing to relax and unwind with at the end of my day ☺️

For your filming studio you should put a honeycomb effect feature on the wall you’re thinking about putting artwork on For your killer bees🐝 Either mirror honeycombs or wooden shelving honeycombs

I like that you mentioned the doors. I did think that some of your doors are hard to spot even as a sighted person. Then I realized it didn't matter because unless you had lights around the doors you can't see them anyways. It is a beautiful space. I love all the rounded corners. I run into things all the time.
