Hi All, back into the swing of things with a great video on a quality product - would be interested in what you think.

Excellent review. First class! I've never been disappointed with Woodpecker's precision and quality.

To be honest it’s my first experience of Woodpeckers, and only had it for a few months on loan - but the quality did shine through. Cheers Andy

Would the anti-clockwise rotation not be in order to stop any accidental drift in positioning as the clockwise drill bit bites into the wood? EDIT: yeah, I think that's why. The clockwise drill bit wants to send the body of the drill+stand anticlockwise. If you've already forced it as far anti-clockwise as it can go, no chance of drift.

That is an excellent point, and yes that is probably it. Thank you.

What a great review, I was considering this guide but after seeing you so clearly demonstrate all the features I'm quite convinced it is the quality item I want it to be.

It is a quality device, you will see in the next video how it compares to the UJk guide. But yes it is quality, I can’t like the dowel solution though :-) Andy

Great review Andy, the price point of the Woodpeckers tools have kept me at bay. Really nice stuff but nothing I haven’t been able to live without or find a reasonable substitute. I do have a small triangle square by Woodpeckers and it is a treat to use. Thanks again for a great video.

Hi Andy great review as always. Might be a lovely product but when I can get 12 deluxe drill guides from Banggood at £68.61 each then I would struggle to justify this when all I want is a straight enough, or angled enough hole. Maybe if I was in a professional setting then possibly but for a Diyer I am not sure if I need that accuracy. Keep your excellent content coming. Must admit I would put that £829.88 towards a Festool CSC SYS50 first.

Yes The price point is the elephant in the room on this one; and like everything it comes down to your use case. I will be looking at the Banggood product at some point so it would be interesting to see how they compare. And yes, the sys 50 is a great product, but it is really bad at drilling holes 🤔 Cheers Andy

Another great review, Andy. I wonder how long it will be before someone makes a one piece 3D-printed auxiliary base for the round stock alignment.

Hey Mike, Yes that is probably how I would solve it. Having said that, I don’t drill that much round stock - and the rest of the product is awesome. Andy

I think the extension rods will sit nicely on the round stock guides to position them correctly. It appears that way to me but I'm an old man with bad eyes so who knows. Thanks for the review. I have the other Woodpeckers drill guide and only use it sparingly so this would not be an option for me. Now off to the subscribe button!

Welcome to the channel and good to meet you. Sadly they won’t fit, I still think it is a compromise based on the awesome angle ability. But such is life. I reviewed the smaller guide, that’s is a quality product, again at a price. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Andy

I wish they had different height springs. I usually end up taking the spring completely out because I won't get enough depth with it in.

That’s a good idea, I wonder if that will alter the return pressure - I was pretty impressed it held the weight of the larger Festool drill but still didn’t make it hard to drill. A really good balance. Cheers Andy

Also one word of caution that the hex on the top of the chuck is pretty easy to bend if you put too much torque into it. I was using it to make some 20mm holes for an MFT top in 2x plywood and it got bent. Woodpeckers was great about sending me a new one, but I wish the top of the unit was heavier duty. @@TheWoodgrafter

I have the UJK version. Don't use it often, but it has solved the problems I wanted it to solve. The one thing that would have made it better, at least for my purposes, is a fence. In that respect, the Woodpeckers is better.

@@TheWoodgrafter UJK really missed a trick by not including a fence option. I ended up making one myself, and it works, but it is not elegant.

@@williamstead6354 agree, I use the Festool track and fence to give me repeatability in both the X & Y plane. So it works as part of my system - obviously a very workshop centric solution though. Cheers Andy

I have a high quality REAL drill press in my shop. Unless you ACTUALLY are professional with on site needs for a tool like this it is Way overpriced and a one trick pony .
@TheWoodgrafter

I did think that at that price point you are into drill press territory, and if you have the room in the shop - then that becomes a no brainer. There are time when you would want to take the drill to the work, breadboard ends come to mind, but other options and products are available. As with all these things it depends on your use case, I am not sure you need that level of accuracy on site (I can’t think of a use case) so it is a shop tool, and fills a niche in a well engineered and manufactured way, but at a price… Cheers Andy
